For Sale: 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Vehicle Description

CHARITY SALE!  A 350CI Hi-Output V8 and TH350 AT with Posi-Rear perfectly complement the exceptional interior and exterior of this complete frame-off professional resto-mod.

Background

This is a charity sale to benefit the Cancer Services of New Mexico Foundation. This car was donated by a grateful client who recently lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and wanted proceeds from the sale to benefit other New Mexicans coping with cancer. The donor and his brother did a complete frame-off professional restoration/customization in 2004 and the car was “touched up” in 2018 (minor paint, trim, and mechanical work) just before it was donated. Since restoration the car has always been garaged and has been driven only 2,980 miles. We believe the donor's brother purchased the car from the original owner and the donor inherited the car when his brother passed away.

About the Restoration

This was a very special custom modification restoration – shortly after the restoration a certified appraiser wrote, “The reason your car is worth more than just another '56 that has been redone is the WAY it is done…I have been blessed to do hundreds of Chevys in my 30 years at this but only one or two of those has evoked the emotion felt at the sight of yours.”

The car has a 350CI Hi-Output V8 engine with TH350 automatic transmission. The custom paint job is a beautiful combination of dark red and white. The original seats were recovered with rose tweed material with rose vinyl trim and the excellent upholstery job shows little wear. The dash area was repainted to match the exterior color. The nicely upholstered trunk matches the theme of the car. Frame, floor, fender walls and shocks were powder coated to match exterior color. Nearly every nut and bolt was replaced with new hardware and nearly every piece of chrome was replaced with NOS or reproduction chrome. Nearly every piece of glass was replaced.

Custom elements include: Elderbrock 4 barrel carburetor and polished aluminum intake manifold; chrome engine dress; ceramic coated headers; custom dual exhaust; custom 15” Progressive brand alloy wheels; Positraction; power front disc brakes; sound deadening applied to firewall and parts of the undercarriage; AM/FM/cassette and clock in dash; custom steering wheel with tilting column; seat belts; and padded sun visors.

Issues

Minor chips in the paint where the license plate was attached. Visible repair of a small dent behind the driver's side door. Antenna tilts a bit. Minor oil leakage. Body number plate was removed.

Documentation

A photo album documenting the restoration process is included with this sale, along with the car's 2008 Chevy Classics Club Platinum Certificate (977 points). Receipts will also be provided documenting much of the restoration process and service since the restoration.

Recent Service History

In August 2018 the company that did the original restoration touched up the white paint on the driver's side quarter; replaced a missing chrome strip above the rear window; fixed the driver's window; replaced missing upper suspension bushing; replaced the driver's side window regulator; did a wheel alignment; repaired an engine timing cover leak; and replaced the rear transmission seal. In addition, in July 2018 the vehicle had an oil change and rear differential service and had the thermostat and some pumps/hoses replaced, and in June 2018 a new battery was installed. Receipts will be provided for all this work.
