The first three generations of the Dodge Ram are arguably the most
desirable with each new generation proving to be a suitable enough
replacement for the previous. While some prefer one generation over
the others, it seems that these three generations (ranging from
1981-2009) appeal to a similar demographic. Anyone who knows Rams
knows that the mid-1990s 12-valve Cummins diesel engine is an
excellent choice of powerplant. But what if you wanted a newer
truck with the older reliability of the previous engine? Easy, you
perform a 12-valve P-pump swap. That is precisely what has been
done to this 2007 Dodge Ram 2500-plus it was turned into a
border-line monster truck with 11inches of lift!
The owner of this truck started with a low-mileage, clean 2007
Dodge Ram 2500. The odometer is currently showing 59,327 miles and
the body reflects this mileage. This is an extremely clean truck
with only a few minor scratches that can be expected for and older
pickup. The body was lifted 3 inches and then an 8-inch Top Gun
Customs stage 3 suspension lift was added for a total of 11 inches
of lift and Bilstein shocks at every corner as well. Don't let the
photos fool you; this truck is a skyscraper! Underneath the truck
is a Top Gun Customs steering stabilizer, an aftermarket power
steering brace, and a set of 44-inch Super Swamper mud tires on
Fuel wheels. Both brake lights as well as the third brake light are
RECON brand aftermarket units. The original radio antenna has been
replaced with a stubby RECON antenna.
Under the hood is where this truck shines! Lead Foot Diesel
Performance of Monroe, Georgia was tasked with taking this engine
to the next level and wow they didn't disappoint. The original
engine was pulled and then had a 12 valve p-pump conversion
performed, however the team at LFDP didn't stop there. They then
added a SXE 366 Turbo, new exhaust, new cam/crank sensor, new over
flow valve, new turbo down pipe, boost tube, oil drain flange,
orings and a custom wiring harness. Additionally, an EFI Live tune
was added to keep inaccurate DTCs from activating the check engine
light in error. All said and done the engine bill was over $15,000
alone! The results are an engine that made 625hp at the dyno and a
astounding 1299 foot-pounds of torque. From there the power is
routed through a south end dual colt stage 2 clutch built to
withstand nearly 800hp. The original 6-speed manual transmission is
a nice touch that gives you a great highway gear.
The interior is in mostly unmodified, clean and complete condition.
It is in the expected condition for an 11-year-old-truck with less
than 60,000 miles. All of the electronics function the way they
should! The only discrepancy is the air conditioning, which works
properly, but has to be activated via a dedicated toggle switch
rather than the original A/C button. The radio has been upgraded to
a nice Kenwood unit with Focal speakers, JL Audio 10-inch subwoofer
as well as an Alpine amplifier.
This is a super cool, custom truck that has been done right and
functions the way it ought to. It runs and sounds great, and sits
way up high! If you're looking for the ultimate lifted Dodge, this
could be the one for you.
