1979 Cadillac Phaeton was introduced by Cadillac Motor Company as a ‘Special Edition’ Model with very low production, having only been offered in 1978 and 1979it sis beloved to be under 4000 Phaetons built in total.
Cadillac special editions have always been a way to express one’s individuality. For the 1979 model year one such limited edition was the Custom Phaeton Coupe. The Custom Phaeton Coupe had an appearance reminiscent of classic Cadillac convertibles. Signature exterior features included a custom fabric roof treatment simulating a convertible top fabric, brushed chrome moldings with flush mounted opera lamps and Cadillac crest, Phaeton scripts on each rear fender and wire wheel discs. Interior exclusivity included 45/55 Dual Comfort front seating. Richly tailored natural grain leather upholstery and matching leather trimmed steering wheel added to the distinction of the Phaeton Coupe. The 1979 Custom Phaeton was a delightful way to experience a Cadillac limited edition. The Phaeton option escalated the already luxurious Coupe deVille to new heights in elegance. Available in Cotillion White with a Dark Blue roof and white leather interior, Slate Firemist with a Black roof and Antique Slate Gray leather interior, or Western Saddle Firemist with a Dark Brown roof and Antique Saddle leather interior. The Custom Phaeton Coupe option was an additional $2,029.
This outstanding ultra low mileage Cadillac was purchased by the long term owner in early 1980. It had been carefully kept by him amongst his other unique collectable cars with continued but limited use while being maintained and serviced as needed. After 27 years of stewardship I purchased from him this Cadillac Phaeton along with another of his ‘ later model collectables’ a low mileage original 1993 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. Mr Goble had great taste in cars.! The 1979 CADILLAC PHAETON was then sold to a long time client collector of ours who was the next careful curator of this Special Edition low mileage Cadillac. It was owned by the second long term owner for nearly ten years. We had again, the opportunity to acquire back this great low mileage example, and are glad to have it in our showroom once again.
This outstanding ‘survivor’ is found in all original show room new condition with only 13,760 KM’s / 8,550 documented original miles. Outstanding original finish in one of only three colours available in the Phaeton, Slate Fire-mist Metallic that shows off both the outstanding original chrome and stainless along with the rich black Hartz cloth carriage roof unique to the Special Edition Phaeton. The wheels are treated with the Special Option Cadillac full wire wheel discs, all four found in perfect original condition. Tires are one of only a few things replaced from new and are proper width wide whites American Classic radials. The outstanding original interior finished in matching Slate Grey Leather with special featured 60/4o front seat and leather wrapped steering wheel. The interior both seats and carpeting and factory mats are like day one new and still retains that new car smell. Fully optioned including factory Ice Cold Air conditioning along with Climate Control, power windows and locks, power seats both front drivers and passenger, AM FM 8 Track tilt & telescopic wheel, cruise control, rear de-ice,Headlight sentinel with auto dim. All the luxury comforts expected from a Special Edition Cadillac.
This example is found in fantastic original condition both aesthetically and mechanically. Powered by the last of Cadillacs best big cubic inch examples , the 7.0 litre 425 cubic V8 . Its quite amazing how well these cars drive, for the weight and size you would expect a little more wallow but this car drives exceptionally pleasing, smooth ample power, very smooth shifting and truly handles the road very well. This car is truly a treat to drive. I guesss what one would expect from a Brand New Cadillac.
