Vehicle Description
1954 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
The popularity of some of America's greatest muscle cars has grown
to the point that components, and even complete replicas, are
produced as entirely new assemblies. Of course, being an astute
enthusiast, you already knew that. I mean, when was the last time
you saw an original Shelby Cobra? The replicar phenomenon gained
even more momentum when Congress passed the Low Volume Motor
Vehicles Manufacturers Act of 2015, prompting, among other things,
a revival of niche manufacturers like Checker Motor Cars.
With that in mind, it seems perfectly logical that this killer
second year Corvette body, a ground-up, custom build, happily
prowls the streets as a modern restomod. The name Art Morrison is
legendary in his hot rod and restomod creations. Taking present day
engineering in suspension and drive train technologies, Morrison
re-creates classics of the past with the performance and function
of modern-day super cars.
Exterior
This Morrison 1954 is draped in beautiful red that is miles deep.
Simple lines with a generous peppering of chrome from the front
grille, to the headlight bezels and screens, to the wonderful jet
age belt line trim that stretches from bumper to bumper. It's the
50's, and fins are in, and this Corvette does not disappoint by
subtly displaying themselves over the taillight. Five spoke chrome
American racing wheels are on all four corners The S curve that is
created by the tail of this car is sssssimply exquisite!
Interior
Plenty of tan, and plenty of leather make up the comfy driver's
compartment. Extra wide buckets stretch from door to door, where
the theme is continued with all leather door panels with replicated
Corvette panel stitching. A symmetrical metal dash with cream
fronting and red top, houses symmetrically aligned gauges from
Stewart Warner. A virtual sea of pristine tan carpeting flows
uninterrupted within the floor of the passenger compartment. A push
of a button between the buckets reveals a very good condition black
convertible top. Removable side screens that protect the passengers
in inclement weather, are easily installed atop the doors. Power
steering and air conditioning, a Lokar shifter, and seat belts are
a few of the awesome upgrades made during the restoration.
Drivetrain
Power comes from a Chevy LT-1 engine producing over 330hp through a
4160E floor mounted automatic transmission. Suspension is all C4
Corvette including its 4-wheel power disc brakes.
Undercarriage
Clean, structurally sound and not a hint of any rust, everything
can be clearly viewed looking from under this build. The attention
to detail, the use of C4 suspension, and a new Magnaflow exhaust
have this 64 year old classic operating as new.
An Art Morrison build is legendary, the use of new technology is
innovative, and the look of this 1954 example Corvette is awesome.
All the drama of owning an over half century old car is taken away
and the only worry you will have is the crowds of people this
beauty will attract.
