Vehicle Description
1988 Buick Reatta
Assembly at the Reatta Craft Center was performed at a series of
stations each with a specialized team of workers, rather than on a
conventional assembly line. After a team had completed their
portion of the assembly, the car would be moved by robots to the
next station. Paintwork was performed on site under subcontract to
PPG Industries.
A unique car with specialized assembly, 1 of only 4,708 produced in
1988, and a 1-owner car. Consigner stated 65,477 miles on this all
original coupe. A unique car ready to rock and roll at your local
car show, or a trip to the shore.
Exterior
Shades of the Pontiac Fiero, this 2-door coupe is painted in Bright
Red with a gold pinstripe. A large plastic trim piece surrounds the
car at the belt line, and lines up with the front and rear bumper
height. A wraparound taillight with centered BUICK badging painted
on it, as well as a wraparound rear glass window emulate the round
lines of this car. Hidden headlights are within a thin pointed
grille, yet it remains rounded. Standard aluminum wheels are all
around.
Interior
Two tone tan leather covers the two front buckets showing darker
tan inserts within a lighter field. A contrasting back center
console is there with the shift lever, and arm rest. Two locking
storage compartments are behind the buckets as well as a locking
trunk access door for any longer cargo. Interestingly as rounded as
the exterior is, the interior uses early 1980's square and
rectangle design for the dash, which has a touchscreen computer
interface, marketed as the Electronic Control Center (ECC). This
includes radio and climate control functions, date reminder, trip
computer, user-configurable overspeed alarm as well as diagnostic
access to the vehicle's electronic systems and sensors. A digital
speedometer readout is featured as well, totally eliminating any
analog gauges. Power windows, power steering with an adjustable
column, power locks, and power brakes were standard fare on this
model.
Drivetrain
The 3.8 Liter V6 can produce 170HP and is meshed with an automatic
transmission all transversely mounted and driving the front
wheels.
Undercarriage
Seen underneath are a fully independent suspension, 4-wheel disc
brakes with ABS, and front wheel drive. Not seen is any rust,
surface or otherwise, just matching red floorpans form
underneath.
Only 4,708 Reattas were produced in 1988 which should surely
position this car as a future collectible. This red Reatta with its
classy and modern tan interior looks, runs and drives fantastic.
Take this truly unique 1 owner car, in excellent original
condition, on tour or to your local car shows.
