Vehicle Description
We're certain the day will come when future enthusiasts refer to
the early part of the 21st century as the golden age of simplistic
performance. Gas was cheap, technology made quick cars easy to
build, and about the only thing that mattered was getting through
the next apex faster than the guy behind you. From 250 horsepower
econoboxes to 550 horsepower Autobahn assassins, it truly was one
of the best times to be a car enthusiast. And, fortunately,
low-mileage metal like this exclusive Solstice allows a few lucky
car guys to hang onto those days just a little bit longer.
Immaculately maintained and rarely driven, this top option roadster
mixes spry athleticism with turbocharged power and head turning
aesthetics. Want a pristine example of one of the last great
Pontiacs ever produced? Check out this sweet GXP!
SOLSTICE IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER
As you can tell from our high-resolution photography, this
curvaceous Pontiac is a well-maintained cruiser that, judging by
appearance, has spent most its 7,874 miles basking in sunny
summertime bliss. Residing in the care of passionate gearheads
since new, the car is 100% straight, with no history of accidents
or damage of any kind. Glossy Mysterious 2-stage bleeds onto small
mirrors, a GXP-spec spoiler and GXP-exclusive fascias. High quality
bodywork founds silver-trimmed glass and tasteful chrome door
handles under a tight cloth top. And overall, this roadster is a
clean, lust-worthy exclusive that looks great idling across the
show field OR hammering down the highway!
TWO LITERS AND A TWIN-SCROLL
Tilt the car's sculpted hood and you'll find a world-class GM
Ecotec 4-cylinder that utilizes a cast aluminum block, a
twin-scroll turbocharger and Spark Ignition Direct Injection to
turn 9.2 to 1 compression into 260 horsepower and 260 lb./ft. of
torque. That direct injection plays well with continuously variable
valve timing. Naturally, a forged crank complements forged
connecting rods and low-friction pistons. Sodium-filled exhaust
valves, cribbed from hot versions of the Corvette, significantly
aid cooling. A cast stainless exhaust manifold optimizes breathing.
And as you would expect, this Pontiac's engine bay features a
clean, OEM-spec appearance that, save for a GM Performance Parts
Air Induction Kit, appears completely unmodified. The highly
desirable mill is a thrilling companion for any car guy who has a
pulse, and serves as a constant reminder that it doesn't take big
displacement to achieve big power and scary speed. And best of all,
GM developed a factory engineered Turbo Upgrade Kit that, for under
$1,000, will bump the car's output to 290 horsepower and a massive
340 lb./ft. of torque!
A MINI CORVETTE
The story of the Solstice and its unique Kappa underpinnings is an
interesting saga. Developed as a cost effective springboard for
small, rear wheel drive lifestyle cars, it was essentially a
simplified and scaled down version of GM's much lauded Corvette.
And, like most Corvettes, this roadster strikes an excellent
balance between bone shaking firm and Lexus soft while providing
great grip. At the core of the car, a hydroformed chassis rides a
fully independent, sport-tuned suspension. At the corners, four
vented rotors are clamped by four multi-piston calipers. Turns are
provided by power rack-and-pinion steering. Torque flows from a
proven 5L40E 5-speed, sourced directly from Cadillac, to a
limited-slip differential and snappy, 3.73 gears. Spent gases are
mitigated by stainless exhaust. And rolling stock consists of
chromed blades that spin 245/45R18 Goodyear Eagle F1s.
JUST THE ESSENTIALS
Inside this Solstice, optional leather buckets fit like a glove,
while a leather-clad steering wheel sports convenient thumb toggles
for Cruise Control and an optional 7-speaker Monsoon sound system.
The instrument panel is a requisite red Pontiac layout that
positions a large tachometer and sweeping speedometer next to
factory air conditioning. Between the seats, a chrome-trimmed
shifter rides a whittled console. All that content is framed in
subtle sills, clean floor mats and Sport Metallic Foot Pedals. And
naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a modern car are
present and accounted for, including power windows, power door
locks, power mirrors and Remote Keyless Entry.
