Vehicle Description
For some reason the car companies haven't returned the full-size
two-door SUVs to the market, and so 4x4s like this 1990 GMC Jimmy
1500 became an instant classic. One of the last few years before GM
shut the book on these vehicles, this comes with great modern
feature like fuel-injection and a comfortable A/C interior, but it
never loses the big V8 or removable fiberglass roof that have made
these sought-after icons.
The big wheels and tall stance is the definition of outdoor
elegance on the big GMC's squared-off bodywork. Given the
capabilities of these trucks, it wouldn't be surprising if this one
lived most of its life off-road, but its exceptional condition
tells us it has seen far less action. As a result, it's
impressively clean and straight, and it looks far younger than it
is. It also helps that there was an investment in a repaint a
couple years ago. The two tone dark blue and silver looks great,
especially with the distinctive red pinstripe to separate the
colors. Factory trim and chrome appears to be original and in good
condition, and there was even a tubular step added to the passenger
side to make climbing aboard a little easier.
1990 was the second to last year for these vehicles, which means
this one has some of the most creature comforts of the nearly 20
year run. You recognize this the moment you feel the relaxing
high-back bucket seat. The plush cloth feels excellent on these,
and it's the same way on the rear seats and door panels. We even
suspect even new carpeting was added just keep up with this overall
stellar interior presentation. The leather-wrapped steering wheel
and factory center console means you'll love long trips behind the
wheel. Plus, the power windows, power locks, cruise control,
upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo, and ice-cold R134a air conditioning keep
you comfortable everywhere from the interstates to the trail. But
we really know your true reason for loving a Jimmy like this is the
idea that on the right day, you can remove a few bolts and have a
complete open rear section for a very cool convertible pickup.
Under the hood is a fuel-injected version of GM's rough-n-ready 350
cubic-inch V8. The reason why the powerplant looks so at home in
the engine bay is because this is the original numbers-matching
unit. In a vehicle that has been so well taken care of on the
exterior and interior, it should be no surprise that this V8 is in
top running form. It has the kind of reliable power that gives the
big yet surprisingly nimble Jimmy genuine enthusiasm out on the
road and plenty of torque to climb through the rough stuff. Plus,
the electronic locking front hubs and two-speed transfer case
remind you that it's a true off-road machine. The list of upgrades
on this truck is extensive, including a three-inch lift and a dual
exhaust system with tips exiting just behind the rear wheels. But
as much as this all sounds like a great way to drive through the
dirt, the 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive,
power steering, and front disc brakes makes this a pleasant 4x4 for
all occasions.
Complete with owner's manual, this is a carefully maintained Jimmy
