Instantly recognizable by the iconic extractor side scoops and massive spoilers on the chin and rear deck lid, this 2nd generation Firebird Trans Am was easily the most radical. 1 of only 5,700 Turbo Indy Pace Cars produced in 1980, this particular bird proudly displays Indianapolis 500 Pace Car decals over Cameo White (RPO LU8) paint with gray accents. If that's not enough, under the bulged hood emblazoned with a one-off variant of the "screaming chicken" lies a turbocharged 4.9L (301cid) mill - one of the last true Pontiac V8s - producing 210hp from the factory. The 301 Turbo differed from other 301 blocks because the cylinder walls were thicker and it was built for lower compression required by the forced induction setup. Internally, these blocks featured forged pistons, a mild cam, rolled fillet crankshaft, and baffled oil pan. High pressure oil and fuel pumps were also fitted. The THM350 automatic transmission was standard on all turbo cars. White painted "turbo" wheels (RPO N89), WS6 Performance Handling Package which included four-wheel disc brakes and a stiffer suspension setup were included options on the Pace Car replicas along with T-Tops, air conditioning, and a 3.08 limited-slip differential. A unique gimmick was the "boost indicator" lights on the trailing edge of the hood (RPO UR4).
