Nineteen sixty-three marked the 10-year anniversary of the
Chevrolet Corvette. It was celebrated with a stunning new "Sting
Ray" design. Penned by Bill Mitchell and Larry Shinoda, the new
Corvette featured an independent rear suspension, optional power
steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. Also, for the first
time ever, Chevrolet offered the Corvette in either a coupe or
convertible body style, with the coupe defined by a two-piece rear
window. While the design remained through the 1967 model year, the
iconic split-window' was a one year only design element.
Built in St. Louis Missouri, this 1963 Sting Ray coupe left the
factory presented in Silver Blue with a Dark Blue interior. The car
was fitted with the L75 300-hp, 327-cu. in. V-8 engine and a
Powerglide automatic transmission, a combination only 1,505 units
received in 1963. It was optioned with quick takeoff wheels, an
AM/FM radio, tinted glass, power steering and brakes, as well as
the rare factory air conditioning, which only 278 examples
received. The car was delivered to Humphrey Chevrolet on West
Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was purchased by first
owner Bryan A. Frame of Waukesha, Wisconsin, on 15 June 1963. This
beautiful 1963 Split-Window' was listed at $5,648.95 when new,
including the $59 delivery charge.
Today, the Corvette remains very much in the way it left the
factory years ago. The car is accompanied by an owner's manual and
a copy of its window sticker. The consignor has made sure this car
is sorted, having spent nearly $4,000 in 2017 addressing minor
items, receipts for which are included. This is a unique
opportunity to own a truly stunning Corvette, specifically the
highly desirable one-year-only Split-Window' coupe.To view this
