This 1992 GMC Typhoon deserves a closer look! Now featured in our
Denver showroom is a very cool example of what the Typhoons are
capable of. When the typhoon came out in the early 90's it gained a
lot of attention with its Turbo'd V6 and all wheel drive platform.
The 4.3L V6 under the hood was pumping out a whopping 280
horsepower from the factory and with the all-wheel drive
capabilities was able to hook and go! This 1992 Typhoon though is
definitely not stock; the 4.3L block is still under the hood but
the internals have since been changed to a forged rotating assembly
including Eagle rods, 8:5.1 JE pistons, Comp Cams 412 camshaft with
.500 lift at 234/234 @ 114 degrees of separation. 1.5 self aligning
roller rocks, matched valve spring, and all dressed up with ARP
hardware. The original heads were changed out for a set of 1996
"772 casting" Vortec heads machined and modified to mate to the
factory lower intake for better flow and all of this was done for
the icing on the cake... the stock turbo was changed out for the
larger PTE 51 turbo! This set up is significantly more power than
the way it came stock and it is easy to tell while driving. Running
and conservative 18 lbs. of boost on the current tune this Typhoon
can pull mid twelve second quarter mile times at sea-level while
still being very much streetable. The 4L80E transmission provides
crisp shifts in between gears and comes equipped with a 2800 rpm
lock up stall converter purchased through TCS and the transmission
is controlled via TCI EZ ECU with programmable parameters. The
interior has been kept mostly stock on this truck with exception to
the gauge cluster on the A-pillar and the Premier aftermarket radio
installed. Driving this Typhoon is an absolute blast! It handles
very well and seems to have endless amounts of power. If you are
looking for a great street-strip vehicle or just something to make
your commute more fun this 1992 GMC Typhoon is an excellent option!
