For Sale: 1965 Volkswagen Bus in West Deptford, New Jersey

Vehicle Description

Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia is very excited to offer this 1965 Volkswagen Walkthrough 21 Window Bus Tribute. We use the term build quite often in this business. Frankly,it is over used. This bus is a true build. Passionately put together by a true automobile enthusiast who spared no expense when designing this Dream Bus. The goal was to create a show winning transporter. Completed in early 2018 the bus has won first place awards in both shows entered. The prestigious Lakeland VW Classic in March of 2018 and the New York City Volkswagen Governor's Island Traffic Jam Show. He started with a 11 window German made Walkthrough bus. This is important because buses that were made in other countries often used inferior parts. The exterior is finished in Porsche Meissen Blue and Volkswagen Pearl white. It features custom Porsche 356 rockers and Bumper trim along with Euro style Clear turn signal lenses with yellow bulbs. Those are European Bumpers by the way. There are also two complete sets of wheels one with white walls and the black wall tires that are on the bus currently. The owner tells me that they are more at home on the highway than the whitewalls but that the whitewalls look too good on the bus to pass them up. Adding to the coolness of this bus the vehicle was lowered two inches. Other suspension mods include adjustable Koni shocks, a custom sway bar, front disc brakes and a rebuilt steering box. Everything is concourse quality. The engine is a GEX Custom 1915cc and the Rancho Freeway Flyer 3:88 transmission are both brand new. The motor is equipped with a deep sump oil pan and an auxiliary oil cooler and fan. A custom exhaust system delivers a perfect air cooled sound. The interior features custom upholstery using period correct vinyl and German cloth. Custom Porsche 356 German Square Weave carpet was used throughout along with Dynamat sound proofing as well. The bus has a 12 volt electrical system with an Optima yellow top dry cell battery. The sound system features a Retro Sound Radio with Bluetooth. The engine firewall upholstery is custom Diamond Stitched. The dash has been custom painted also in Porsche Meissen Blue and houses a complete set of custom gauges. Including Temperature and oil pressure. It also has a Deluxe original VW clock and a power outlet under the middle seat. Check out the basket cup holder. The best interior option by far is the 8000 BTU air conditioning unit that is located under the rear seat and is powered by a Honda 2200i Inverter generator that is custom installed. Seat belts were also added as they were not standard in 1965. The front windows are safari type and the side are Pop Outs. All the windows are custom tinted. Check out the size of the sunroof, Let The Sun Shine In! In the rear cargo area there are Porsche 356 luggage brackets, leather straps and even a piece of vintage Luggage. The bus is also equipped with a Blaze Cut fire suppression system. There have been approximately 3300 miles put on the bus since its completion with all maintenance and tuning done by Dougherty's Automotive. They are Porsche experts located in West Chester, Pa.
