Vehicle Description
1980 MG MGB
With numerous buyouts and mergers, the MG moniker became
increasingly less funded, due to concentration of efforts to market
other models within the waning British Leyland Company. The MG MGB
-LE was a marketing endeavor between British Leyland and the US
distributor to boost slipping sales. Produced for 1980 model year,
the LE kit would only be installed on black cars. A total of 6,668
LE's were produced.
This MGB LE for consignment was partially made up of parts
manufactured in the US. The front air dam and luggage rack were two
of those additions which were sent back to the US for dealer
installation. Only available in the convertible version of the MGB,
and not the GT model, this model needs some cosmetic TLC.
Exterior
This particular LE model shows different than the standard MGB in
that it has a front air dam within the 5-mph bumper, 5-spoke alloy
wheels, silver rocker stripes, luggage rack, and Limited-Edition
plaque. Black repaint was applied in 2008 and shows in fair
condition. The convertible top is slightly stiff from age and is
difficult to snap down to the body. Rear window is clear with a few
scratches within it.
Interior
Leather covered 3-spoke steering wheel and Limited-Edition plaque,
are seen fronting the two tan leather buckets. Consigner states
that new carpeting was put in in 2008 along with the paint job.
Instrument panel, center console, and other interior surfaces are
in need of detailing, but all is functional.
Drivetrain A 1798cc 4-cylinder engine fed by dual SU carbs and a
4-speed manual transmission with working electronic overdrive. This
configuration has just seen a complete tune ups, and the car starts
quickly, and runs and drives great.
The particular LE has been owned by the same individual for over 10
years. An opportunity to own the last of the iconic MG's at a very
reasonable price, along with adding some cleanup, and detailing,
you'll be good to go!
