Vehicle Description
Two owners since new! The 3rd generation Pontiac Firebird was
introduced ahead of the Chevrolet Camaro and featured fuel
injection, a first for the model. Other firsts included a hatchback
body and choice of either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual
transmission, as well a base 4-cylinder "Iron Duke" engine.
Thankfully, this particular bird was optioned out in the
high-performance Trans Am trim and came equipped with a 305 CID
V-8. That motor has since been replaced by a more powerful 383
stroker. Other features of GM's F-Body sports cars included a
steeply raked windshield, large glass rear hatch and retractable
headlamps. By 1985 the Trans Am body was the most aerodynamic
vehicle put into production by General Motors with a drag
coefficient of only 0.29. This was achieved through the use of a
redesigned front bumper with integrated fog lamps and a new rear
bumper, as well as redesigned ground effects. The lightweight
aerodynamic alloy side view mirrors and hidden windshield wipers
introduced for this generation were also contributors. Front disc
brakes were fitted as standard on all Firebird models, along with a
completely redesigned suspension system. Features introduced in
1985 and carried over to the 1986 model year included:
graph-patterned background for the gauges, redesigned
dashpad/center console, T-handle shifter for vehicles equipped with
the automatic transmission, and functional twin louvered "nostrils"
implemented along with rear exhaust vents on the hood. 1986 models
implemented center, high-mounted stop lamps, restyled instrument
gauges and "low density" tail light lenses with a grid-style
pattern. Trans Am models were fitted with simulated "Air
Extractors" on the fenders, tinted full width tail lights, "Aero
Spoiler" rubber-vinyl wrap-around rear wing,"Aero Tech" 16-inch
aluminum wheels [optional], and the iconic "Phoenix" decals. This
particular example features the original paint and interior. It
also rides on street tires and is equipped with an aftermarket
exhaust, 6 digit odometer reads: "046010". Bring back more
