Take a look at this award winning Custom 1940 Oldsmobile Series 60 Convertible brought to you by Caruso Classic Cars. This is truly a high end build with obsessive detailing evident throughout. This is a very rare car as only 3 1940 Olds convertibles are known to still exist! The car has only 23,000 miles on it since the frame off build and restoration was completed in 2001. It has won many awards and has been featured in numerous publications over the years.
The restoration began by reworking the floor and inner fenders to make them solid so the body could be removed for chassis work. The stock frame was then designed to accommodate Corvette suspension in both the front and rear. The chassis' anti-roll bar, springs, spindles, steering rack, brakes, master cylinder, and power booster are all either stock or aftermarket Corvette products. Budnik cobalt wheels complete the rolling chassis.
The hood as well as each fender was molded and the head light area was modified to accommodate Mercedes-Benz headlights. The grille and the sheet metal surrounding it was redesigned. In the rear, the roll pan was modified to accommodate the custom dual exhaust pipes and the custom designed tail lights were located in the widened fiberglass fenders. Most of the car is ALL STEEL except for the rear fenders. Car has an 80's corvette suspension and disc brakes all around. Headlights and taillights go on automatically when car is started with switch to control operation mode.
The color is a custom House of Kolor mix dubbed Apricot Pearl. The convertible top was reworked resulting in the roof line being dropped nearly 2 inches. The top is powered by a custom pneumatic system in the trunk incorporating the original cylinders. It can be opened and closed without the engine running. The rebuilt Olds 455 cubbic inch Engine was located, machined, and fine-tuned. The block was bored .030 over. The heads were ported and polished. An Edelbrock cam and lifters were used along with Milodon springs and rockers. The Edelbrock intake manifold and quadrajet carburetor are topped off with a custom built all-steel air cleaner cover made from three headlight buckets.
The interior features 16-way power, heated, leather Cadillac DTS front seats. The rear seats are from the same Cadillac and were molded to fit the Olds. The custom carbon fiber dash houses VDO gauges, a Sony stereo, switches, and the built in custom glovebox. It also features power windows including vents and Air Conditioning.
