For Sale: 1958 Buick Roadmaster in Chicago, Illinois

Vehicle Description

The King of Chrome!  More chrome than any car in history!
High-end Buick Roadmaster.  Don't waste your time with the cheaper low end Special or Century.  Roadmasters and Limiteds are the high end models. They are extremely rare and increasing in value!

Numbers matching 3 owner car.

I am a private owner. Not a dealer or flipper. Clean Illinois title in my name. I am the 3rd owner of this car. Both previous owners lived in Rhode Island where the car was originally purchased. It still has the chrome Hoxie Buick emblem on the trunk lid from where it was purchased in RI. I have a little bit of paperwork from previous owners for some history, although you always wish you had more.

Exterior
The exterior of the car is in excellent condition. No rust. It was restored by the previous owner in 2004 and was done very well. It was repainted the original color. Not a cheap paint job. Really well done. The undercarriage of the car was undercoated at some point in history and because of that it has been preserved better than almost any 58 buick I've ever seen. The previous owner also spent 25K to have all of the lower chrome rechromed. This is more than my asking price. The bumpers look great. Rear bumpers are almost always rusted out on 58 Buicks. There are a few small door dings in a couple of chrome pieces but nothing too noticeable. All of the typical trouble spots on 58 Buicks look great. The stainless around the windows doesn't look as nice as the lower chrome. It has lost its shine in places. It will need to be buffed out or replaced. I know someone who will sell a complete set for a very reasonable price. Expensive wide white wall tires are like new. Matching spare in the trunk. Entire exhaust was redone in the past 3000 miles. Glass is all good.

Interior
The interior is all original. For 60 years old, it isn't bad, but it doesn't match the splendor of the exterior. The headliner will need replaced at very minimum. Interior chrome around the windows has some pitting. The driver's seat foam has deteriorated so you feel the springs as you sit. Front seat has some seams pulling apart and a small 1inch tear from the springs. Back seats look good. Door panels are ok, but have a few tears and are pulling up at some seams. The hard-to-find dash pad that goes all the way across is in good shape. That is a typical problem area. The covering that goes between the windshield and the dash pad is pulling up in a couple areas. All in all, the interior is driver quality. It is usable as is, but could be upgraded over time.

Drivetrain
It has the original 364 nailhead engine. Numbers match. It starts and runs. I drive it around town. You do have to tap the gas pedal a couple times when accelerating from a stop or it may stall.

It has the rare Flight Pitch transmission. Another advantage you don't find in the lower end models of 58 buicks. The transmission shifts smoothly and works great.

I spent a lot of money to have the brake booster and master cylinder rebuilt this summer. I still have to press down pretty hard on the pedal, although it stops fine. I think it is just a vacuum leak.

Mechanical
Gauges all work, except the speedometer. (They rarely do on 58 buicks).

It has the rare Wonderbar radio. It turns on, but doesn't find a station. It may be that there is something wrong with the antenna hook-up? I never bothered trying to figure it out.

The car has power windows. The front two windows work great. The back two move, but need some adjustment to go fully up or down. I don't think the windshield wipers work. This is a factory non-AC car. It still has the pedal-start feature from the 58 Buick which can be a little finicky at times, but it does always start for me.

This would make a great original classic for the right buyer. Probably a great investment for the future as well. I wish I could keep it, but I hope to find someone else who will enjoy it.
