Vehicle Description
1978 Ford LTD II Sedan
This version, the LTD II, was produced between 1977 and 1979, and
is considered the last of the large and long chassis class. With
gas prices climbing, and public interest shifting to economy and
downsizing, the model only lasted 2 years before its demise.
The saying "status was looked upon by the number of inches your car
was long," applies here with this 219.5 inch 4-door sedan. Designed
away from the traditional coke bottle styling, all straight and
squared off panels, a level belt line, and fenders retraining large
fender flares. This car drips late 1970's design and offers plenty
of room to boot.
Exterior
A repaint close to original color, and a newly updated vinyl roof,
are seen on those straight panels and roofline. Exterior chrome and
badging is all there, and presents in fair condition, with some
pitting and peeling. Rectangular headlights frame a pointed grille
on each side. A massive hood tips the front of the car, and a
sliding trunk lid angles downward matching the rear quarter panels
towards a 5-mph bumper. Standard black steel wheels are centered by
a Ford Motor Company center stainless steel cap.
Interior
Consigner states a new interior has recently been installed which
includes a split bench front seat with flip down armrest. This seat
and the rear bench are covered in cloth. Door panels present
nicely, and are dark blue vinyl with window cranks, door actuator,
and a speaker. Also seen is a swatch of carpeting along the bottom
edge of each door. Headliner is in good condition and is vinyl for
easy cleaning. The dark blue vinyl dash with its square and
rectangular design, houses the instrument panel, air conditioning
and heating controls, as well as a glove compartment. Faux wood
veneer panels cover key areas of the dash and add warmth and style.
AC blows cold and does so quickly on a hot day.
Drivetrain
A recently rebuilt 302ci Windsor V8 sits in the original engine bay
and is attached to a rebuilt Ford C4 3-speed automatic. Note, is
also has a rebuilt torque converter, heater core, power steering
pump, alternator, as well as new belts and hoses. Underneath a new
flow master exhaust is noted. Also seen are newly replaced springs
and shocks.
One of the last of the Ford offerings for the BIG car market, in
its second to last year. A nice example of a cruiser that easily
accommodates 6 passengers.
