The 3rd generation Oldsmobile Toronado has the distinction of being
the first mass produced US front wheel drive car with an all new
transaxle and engine in a single package dubbed the UPP, or
Universal Power Package. Tough, durable and compact, this design
was well used and even found itself powering motorhomes and needing
no upgrades spoke of its durability. The Toronado soldiered on for
many more generations as the brands top model, with luxury and
features than nearly competed with Cadillacs.
