to detract from its appearance. Take a look from up front and
you'll see that the headlights sit behind clear lenses - always a
good sign of having been spared from exposure to the elements - and
the universally recognized Mercedes badge is sharp and unpitted as
it rests in the center of the fresh looking grille. The exterior
alignment on this SL550 is in top form all over, in fact - you
won't find an uneven gap between panels or anything off kilter

and is free from the random noises that often plague its

The two tone, cognac and black interior provides a very nice
contrast with the exterior and is in great shape. There aren't many
signs of wear on the leather surfaces of the contoured power bucket
seats, nor on the center console sitting between them, and even the
carpet lining the floor looks like it has been treated with
respect. Mercedes never was a company to cut corners as far as
comfort and convenience features are concerned, and this SL is no
exception - you'll find a navigation system, cruise control, power
door locks and windows and cruise control on board, as well as air
conditioning that's blowing strong and cold, and the AM/FM/CD
stereo stands ready to fill the cabin with sound. The interior's
level of functionality is impressive - all of the gauges in the
instrument cluster function as intended behind crystal clear
lenses, as do all control knobs and switches. The trunk area looks
to be in good order, with clean gray carpeting lining its floor and
walls.
A 5.5 liter 32 valve double overhead cam V8 sits underneath the
hood in a very clean engine bay and it's a potent performer that
provides plenty of acceleration - Mercedes equipped it with a full
80 more horsepower than in the previous year when this '07 debuted.
The powerplant starts up easily, and runs smoothly - it recently
received a full service so it's at the top of its game - and it
teams with a 7-speed automatic transmission to provide a great
driving experience. The SL550's low profile and finely tuned
suspension combine with its smooth power steering to make it a
blast to take through turns, while power brakes at all four corners
bring it to prompt stops when called upon. This sharp looking
