Vehicle Description
Introduced in 1959 for the 1960 model year, the Corvair was GM's
attempt to compete with the sporty foreign imports that were
suddenly taking the compact car market by storm. The Corvair ran
for a decade, with two generations built. Eventually, the Corvair
was falsely cited as unsafe and fell out of favor with the general
public.
This 1962 Corvair Monza is part of the first generation of
Corvairs, and is in excellent driver quality condition inside and
out. The only glaring defect is the lack of a driver's door window,
which simply needs to be replaced. Otherwise, a new set of tires
wouldn't hurt, and this car would be ready to cruise! The paint is
in great driver condition with minor blemishes and scratches. The
red is a nice shade that is both deep and vibrant, shot over a
clean and straight body. Completing the exterior look is a nice set
of mesh rock guards over the headlights.
Under the hood (trunk?) is the turbocharged, 150 horsepower
air-cooled Corvair engine. The engine is complete and easy on the
eyes, as is the engine bay. The entire engine area is very clean
and well-maintained. This car leaks a healthy amount of oil, but
that's just because that's what Corvairs do! Anyone who has owned
one before will know this to be the case.
A look at the interior reveals a nice set of seats with no rips or
tears, showing only wear from use. As with the exterior, the
interior is in nice driver-quality condition. There are lots of
original parts in place, and this would certainly make a
comfortable cruiser.
If a quirky, domestic, air-cooled convertible is the game, Corvair
is the name! All this little Chevy needs is a new window and a new
owner.
