For Sale: 1959 Lotus Super Seven in Stratford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

A car I have owned for over forty years, always as a road car, over thirty years as a competitive vintage race car.

Summary of specifications:   original tubular spaceframe chassis,  polished aluminum panels (several of which are stressed), aluminum nose and fenders, factory listed weight of under 900 pounds.

Engine:   less than 3,000 miles on rebuilt, highly modified 1485cc Coventry Climax FWB engine (as used by Cooper for Fm II), aluminum block, head, sump, even the bearing caps.   New steel billet crankshaft, steel Carrillo con rods, forged JE pistons, gas flowed ported and polished SOHC head, new steel billet race camshaft, lightened steel flywheel, balanced, thick alloy plate under block to add rigidity, finned alloy sump, high capacity clutch, steel timing gears, twin 40 DCOE Weber carbs, tubular headers, electronic ignition, probably around 135hp and with tons of torque.  And a rev limiter to keep everything together!

Mated to an alloy cased BMC gearbox with straight cut, close ratio gears.   LSD with 4.2 final drive, steel competition axle shafts.   All components are 'the best of the best' and work well for both race and road use.

9" finned alloy drums at all four corners, Kevlar high performance brake shoes, dual master cylinders with adjustable balance bar.   Chromed front suspension and springs, adjustable top control arms (for camber), adjustable shocks with adjustable ride height springs.  And two sets of 60 spoke wire wheels, one with 165SR15 radials for road use and another set with 500L15 Dunlops for race.

Original alloy Lotus fuel tank with ATL fuel cell custom installed inside, twin electric fuel pumps, Accusump oiling system, oil cooler, Aeroquip oil lines, remote oil filter, removable roll bar, twin racing screens, battery cut off switch, racing harnesses, quick disconnect charging plug..........

And for road, top and side curtains, factory heater, stereo, electric radiator cooling fan, original headlights, working brake and side lights, air horns, 8,000 chromometric tachometer, chronometric speedo, tonneau, small diameter racing steering wheel, fire extinguisher, all in all, this is one incredible Lotus Super 7 Series 1.  AND has its original Lotus VIN plate, current VSCCA log book, and has not only been driven on Connecticut roads for 40+ years, but has been raced in the Bahamas, Canada, throughout the Northeast, driven on hot Summer days, Winter, rain (yes, the wipers work) and even in sleet.

Don't know of another Super 7 in the world that can compare.   Super fast, comfortable ride, great handling, and the last time it was raced with the VSCCA, at the thru-the-streets Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, running in the fastest class (Sports/racers and Formula cars), it finished 3rd behind a very fast Elva Mk V, the fastest Lotus 18 Fm Junior, and ahead of every Lotus XI and Lola Mk I.

NONE of which are street cars.

Whether for show, road use, just sitting in one's garage, or winning races, it is truly one of a kind and has not really been on the market since the mid 1970s.  Price...on application.
