For Sale: 1983 Porsche 944 in Spring, Texas

$15,500 (OBO)

Vehicle Description

A beautiful, clean 1983 original low mileage, original paint, original interior, original motor, well documented, multiple show car winner. A very smooth and strong engine with zero problems.  No oil leaks, super clean, no rust, starts perfect, runs well, idles well, shifts through the 5-gears perfectly. accelerates well, drives well, tight as can be and super well balanced.  Still smells like a Porsche should. Doors, windows, hatch and everything shuts and feels like new.   This vehicle is fun, responsive, corners well and a real joy to drive.  Garaged and well maintained.  Not a daily driver, garaged and driven about 100 miles a month to car shows and weekend driving.  There is no doubt this car could be driven across the country if an owner so desired.

Recent work completed: (All within the last two years)

New timing belt, new counter balance belt, new rollers and new tensioners.

New Water pump with updated timing belt guide,

New OEM radiator, all new Hoses, Converted to OEM double 6 Blade 1984 fan - runs cool even in 100 degree weather. Completed at 68,750 miles.  The motor never overheated, however the original radiator was 35 years old and not worth the potential future issues.

New plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, new fuel filter, oil change 20-50, fuel system clean, new fuel injection system parts, throttle body cleaning and vacuum tests and seals.

New disc brake rotors, new disc brakes and replaced front bearings.

New A/C Compressor, Dryer, Seals, Converted to 134a - Blows nice and cold !  This was completed at 68,750 miles.

New Thermostat, Engine Management Sensor, New HVAC temp sensor, New Thermo switch.

New CV joints replaced back on the original stronger OEM axles, Bolts, Fasteners, CV Boots, New KYB Gas-A-Just Rear Shocks, Transmission/Trans axle fluid changes.  All completed 500 miles ago.

New Leather gear shift knob, rebuilt gear shift knob/hardware.  Shifts perfect, no sideways play. The transmission shifts perfectly between all gears and the clutch has perfect traction.  Fluid change on the differential and transmission.  Transmission feel like brand new.

New 5-year battery December 2017, Wired in trickle charger connection to keep charged during the winter months.

New Deck lid Shocks with correct defrost connections

I have many books, records and receipts going back 35 years

Rear rubber deck is in perfect shape, no cracks, pliable and zero sag.

Interior is near perfect condition, very nice carpet, seats in excellent shape, steering wheel, new mats, door jams, storage, snaps, under dash, fuse blocks... everything looks and is clean. Two small cracks in the dash - very normal and actually not very noticeable.

Exterior is also very nice, the engine compartment, undercarriage, original paint, battery tray, engine pan, and trans-axle are super clean, oil, dirt free and well maintained.  Even though I'm not the original owner - you can tell this vehicle has been garaged it's whole life, and from the looks of it - I don't think it ever saw any bad weather, salt or snow.  It's very clean - no matter where you look.  The paint looks great - Yes there are a few minor paint chips (35 years of use) up front - it's original and shines super well, with clarity and depth at a 9 out of 10.  I have factory color touch up paint and clear coat as needed.

Gauges and instruments work great; The clock does not keep time, but runs sometimes.   Excellent stereo with 4 speakers and original front/rear fade control dial.  I do not have the original radio, but one can be picked up for about $300-$400

Vehicle includes the original spare tire, original portable air pump, original tools and a 1983 Escort radar detector still in the box.  Original factory dealer window sticker included (pictured), lots of original advertisements and a quality brown leather bag to keep everything in.  Included framed fact sheet specific to the car.  These items make perfect show accessories car at local and regional car shows.

You will not find many early original condition 944's (first year in the states) in this excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically.  This Porsche has been taken care of properly for 35 years.   I have receipts and documentation going back to the purchase in 1983.

If you are looking for a very nice Porsche 944 - Let's make a deal.  I know what is out there for the money and this car will not disappoint.

This vehicle has passed the required inspections in Texas.

Good Luck !

Other information to include from past maintenance receipts:

•     Front Shocks are OEM (black with blue stripe) replaced at some point in the last few years. They look new and do not have any play, creak or sway.  The vehicle rides and handles very well.

•       Fuel pump is OEM

•     Tires are in excellent shape and have at least 90-95% of their tread left.

Other repairs from the past that I have limited details about:

•     Clutch slave cylinder replaced in 2007

•     Electric antenna replaced in 2007

•     Fan switch and relays replaced in 2007

•     According to past records, the timing and balance belt have been replaced at least 3-4 times + the full replacement that I installed last year with new rollers and tensioners.

•     According to one receipt, all the front engine seals were replaced 2003.  There are zero oil leaks on the front, back or under the motor.  It's clean.  The OEM under engine vented rock/gravel pan is also installed - many of these older Porsche's have these missing.
