For decades the XJS has been Jaguars sporty grand touring coupe and
convertible. It has been offered in a variety of different
configurations throughout the years. Only for a limited time was it
offered with an optional 5-speed manual transmission. This 1994
model is one of 124 convertibles produced with a 5-speed manual for
the US market. Exceedingly rare, these are highly prized cars by
Jaguar enthusiasts and collectors.
This example was loved by the woman who originally purchased it. A
one owner example, this Jaguar was her baby and she took care of it
with pride. Car Fax will show that she always had it serviced at
the dealer where she purchased it in Maryland. A couple of years
ago she passed away and her family struggled with selling something
that was so special to her.
Recently, her family confirmed that they were ready to part with
her Jaguar. Upon its arrival to us, it went directly to the Jaguar
Doctor in Boca Raton, Florida where it received a thorough
inspection. In the last couple of years it has only been driven 200
Miles. As expected, maintenance was needed to get the car back on
the road. To get this car ready for sale we had performed:
Oil and filter change
Replace battery
Replace air conditioning compressor, dryer, and both Schrader
valves
Replace right side AC blower motor
Replace all four rear suspension mounts
Replace shifter bushings
Replace handbrake sleeves
Replace rear brake calipers, and hoses
Replace both horns
Replace air filter
Replace wiper blades
Replace convertible top
Once all of the service work was been completed, we drove and
photographed the car. We were anxious to drive this car since we
had never driven a manual transmission XJS before. We are delighted
to report that it is a thrill to drive. The first three gears are
very close and take it vantage of the 4.0 L six-cylinder's power.
It accelerates quickly and is very responsive. The fourth and fifth
gears are taller for quiet and efficient cruising. Since we
replaced the shifter bushings, the gear lever is tight and precise.
The clutch is hydraulic and is smooth and has just the right amount
of effort. Manual transmission XJS is a wonderful card to
drive!
With the exception of the convertible top and maintenance items,
this XJS is all original. It comes complete with
