Vehicle Description
This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Tribute will afford some lucky
classic car enthusiast the rare opportunity to get behind the wheel
of a sharp looking, strong running first generation specimen of one
of the most pivotal models in modern automotive history at a great
price. Even better, this Camaro's road readiness offers plenty of
fun-filled miles in its already attention getting condition.
It's easy to forget that the Camaro was a fairly late entrant into
the muscle car wars that had taken center stage among
performance-minded car buyers by the mid-'60s, but one quick glance
at this '68's first generation form provides plenty of evidence
that Chevy got things right the first time around. That winning
"long hood, short deck lid" plays out to great effect here and the
black paint, ornamented by broad white painted stripes down the
cowl hood and deck lid, provides a killer look. There's no doubt
that this vintage Chevy will turn plenty of heads in its present
condition, but a little wet sanding would definitely take things up
a notch. All its badging, including the Z/28 emblems positioned on
the front bumpers as a nod to this car's upper crust Chevy
inspiration, are securely in place and the cabin is surrounded by
clear glass that features rubber seals in good condition.
The interior was nicely restored a while back, and definitely has a
lot to offer. The black vinyl covers on both the front buckets and
rear bench seat show very little wear, with plenty of padding left
to indicate they haven't seen a lot of use over the years. Resting
between the buckets, the center console is in very clean condition,
featuring fresh woodgrain inserts that surround its white balled
Hurst manual shifter as well as the four AutoMeter gauges
positioned just a little farther forward that join the new-looking
counterparts residing in the instrument cluster behind a woodgrain
steering wheel. A supple-looking, crack-free dash pad - always a
welcome sight with UV sensitive black upholstery - runs the width
of the cabin just above. The trunk area looks to be in good order,
with clean vinyl lining its floor and a fresh rubber gasket sitting
just below its deck lid to keep the elements from intruding.
Anxious to get out on the road and enjoy yourself? You'll have no
problems here. The 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood starts very
easily and runs smooth, sounding out a strong, even exhaust note in
the process. It sits in an orderly engine compartment, surrounded
by fresh hoses and orderly wiring wearing a chrome Edelbrock air
cleaner over its matching 4-barrel carb and intake manifold, as
well as a pair of chrome valve covers on its sides. The powerplant
teams with a 4-speed manual transmission that's shifting with
precision to provide just the "hands on" vintage driving experience
a classic like this deserves while a look below will show a solid
undercarriage. Smooth power steering makes this Camaro an easy
navigator, while power front disc brakes provide dependable, fade
resistant stops as this coveted Chevy cruises on a set of 15" stock
wheels wrapped with all season radials.
Sound, strong running first generation Camaros aren't very easy to
