This is a beautiful example of one of the first produced Ford
Mustangs. Manufactured four months before the 1965 model year
alongside 1964 Ford Falcons and Mercury Comets, this Mustang is
commonly referred to as the1964 model. This was abase model
convertible and used a 'U-code' 170ci Thriftpower L6 engine
borrowed from the Falcon, as well as a three-speed manual
transmission and retailed for US$2,368.Standard equipment for the
1964 Mustangs included black front seat belts, a glove box light,
and a padded dash board. This particular mustang is equipped with
vinyl black bucket seats, 3 speed floor shifter, an aftermarket
cassette radio, and original factory gauges. The Thriftpower L6
runs extremely smooth and quite for a comfortable driving
experience. The 3 speed transmission shifts into gear nicely and
makes this car a blast to drive. The exterior has been refinished
in a green metallic and is driver quality. Originally, it was a
'K-code' Silversmoke Gray.Overall, this Mustang is history rich,
drives great, and is something that will start conversation
everywhere you take it.
History;
Long before everyones favorite muscle car became the performance
driving and pop culture icon that it is, the Ford Mustang was just
an idea in the brilliant mind of Ford executive Lee Iacocca. After
the infamous Ford Edsel bombed, Iacocca and a dedicated team of
engineers set out to create an all-new project that would help the
automotive giant keep pace with its rivals in the competitive
industry. Learning from the companys previous mistakes, it was
Iacoccas vision to create a small car that would weigh no more than
2,500 pounds and would measure no more than 180 inches in
length.
After 18 months of intense preparation and development, the first
Mustang ever made was finally ready to be introduced to the world.
Unlike most vehicle debuts that take place quietly in Detroit
showrooms, Iacocca and the team at Ford had other plans for the
first Mustang.
In order to gain as much media exposure as possible, Iacocca, Henry
Ford II, and the rest of the team unveiled a prototype of the 1964
1/2 Mustang at the Worlds Fair in Flushing Meadows New York. There
was palpable buzz within the Ford pavilion and throughout the
entire Worlds Fair as the masses came in droves to catch a glimpse
at the first Mustangs to ever roll off of the production line.
Those that wished to purchase a 1964.5 Mustang could decide between
a coupe and a convertible model.Speaking of choices, Ford fans had
several different engine options for their Mustangs, including a
170ci / 2.8L 105hp-producing L6, as well as a trio of V8 motors.
