The gamble paid off, because Dodge sold three times as many Monacos in 1966, all with a price $250 to $500 higher than that of their Polara counterparts. The big bonus in searching out a Monaco over a Polara is the engine. Base Polara's were the low-priced "Polara 318" trim, but Monaco's were all offered with 383-cu.in. V-8s, with a Carter BBD-4125S two-barrel carburetor in base form, delivering 270hp.
