For Sale: 1934 Hudson Eight in Boston Area, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

  • Breathtaking presentation of first year streamlined design
  • One of seven listed in the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club Registry
  • Detailed, authentic restoration completed in 2007
  • Equipped with rare factory options and accessories

This 1934 Hudson Eight Special “LT” Convertible Coupe underwent a nine-year restoration completed in 2007 by the current owner.  The Hudson is authentic in every detail – from its Daphnis Green paintwork to interior fittings and the engine compartment.  Every nut and bolt on this car has been removed, inspected and refinished – every mechanical and cosmetic detail has been attended too.  Period correct Goodyear "ripple" sidewall whitewall tires have been mounted to correctly pinstriped artillery wheels; absolutely perfect chrome accentuate the interior and exterior. A custom tailored Hartz Stay-Fast convertible top covers the flawless camel colored interior.  All rubber has been replaced and a correct wiring harness fitted. The steel instrument panel and inside door-top edge trim have been woodgrained to match an original sample.  Unique vent windows rotate open and disappear into the suicide doors for a sleek look.  Accessories include rare factory radio, dual tail lights, dual windscreen wipers, cowl vent screen, fender lamps and twin horns.

Mechanically, the eight cylinder engine runs like a Swiss-made watch – at shows, the owner has demonstrated the smoothness of this Hudson’s straight-eight by balancing a coin on the engine while it's idling.  The three-speed transmission is synchronized in 2nd and 3rd and shifts properly. The Hudsonite oil-bath cork clutch is silky smooth with virtually no chatter and its easy on your left leg.  The sole mechanical enhancement to the drivetrain performed during the restoration has been substitution of 3.50:1 differential gears – greatly improving the drivability (the factory 4.11:1 ring and pinion gears are included and the speedometer has been corrected to accurately read MPH and distance).

Detailed photographs of the restoration available.

This Hudson has accumulated 5,800 trouble free miles since completion and continues to win awards at virtually every show. Displayed at 29 shows since completed, this automobile has received 39 awards including 17 Best of Shows and 15 First Places.  The vehicle has been featured in notable enthusiast publications including Classic Cars (Nov '10, issue #74), Hemmings Motor News and Collectable Automobile Magazine (Feb '13, issue 29#5).

From the 1934 Hudson Dealer Brochure:

This new principle of motor car designing and construction, developed exclusively by the Hudson Motor Car Company and used in the production of all 1934 Hudson-built cars, is considered by automotive engineers the most important engineering development in 15 years.  It provides greater ruggedness and power per pound of weight.  It makes possible a performance ability unmatched in the industry, lower first cost and greater economy of operation.  The Hudson Principle of Unit-Engineering has been tested by tens of thousands of owners of Hudson-built cars under all driving conditions.

The 1934 Hudson with Dynamic Streamlining LOOK right because they ARE right.  For these cars not only have streamlined fronts – representing 25% of the wind resistance – but they have streamlined sides and backs, which represent 75% of the wind resistance of which a motor car is capable.

Wind tunnel tests dictated the functional lines of the new Hudson – and the engineers designed them to follow the lines of least resistance as they split through the air like spearheads.

Here is gracefulness merged with luxury – fleetness with endurance.
