Vehicle Description
Two years after Ford's prized pony car creation captured the
interest of the American car buying public, its manufacturer
skillfully added some room to its engine compartment in order to
accommodate a bona fide big block and expand its already sizable
legion of devotees. The result was an undisputed hit, as this 1967
Ford Mustang GTA ably illustrates. It's logged an unusually low
78,000 miles and this numbers-matching beauty will pull into its
next owner's garage carrying not only build receipts as backup for
the work that's gone into bringing it to top form, but also a Marti
report to testify as to its authenticity.
The Silver Frost exterior shade is the color it began life with.
You don't see many on the road still decked out this way, so it's
nice to see the color so well-represented. A repaint performed a
while back really freshened things up and time has been kind to
this classic - it's obviously been very well sheltered from the
elements. The body is topped by a black vinyl top that's in equally
impressive condition. There are no glaring blemishes to detract
from its impact and its body panel alignment is very much on point.
From front to back, the collection of chrome on this Mustang is in
very clean shape - the bumpers both fore and aft really look great,
as does the signature running corralled pony situated on the front
grille. Tinted fog lights up front add a special touch.
The black vinyl interior retains a factory look, as well as an
ultra-clean condition that indicates not many people have passed in
and out of the doors. The covers of the front bucket and rear bench
seat don't show any visible wear and have a nice fresh glow on
their surfaces as they sit over black carpeting that looks to have
recently been replaced. An aftermarket extension sits over the
center console, offering welcome cupholders and some storage space.
Air conditioning was far from a given back in the '60s, but it's on
board here, and while it will likely need a simple freon charge to
perform at its best, it's blowing plenty strong. The brushed
aluminum panel on the instrument cluster adds a deluxe look and
surrounds an assortment of gauges that are all crystal clear and
functioning just as intended. Just above, the dash pad is free of
any cracking - a welcome sight in UV sensitive black upholstery.
The trunk area is just as clean as you would expect, based on the
rest of the car, with a full-size spare resting on its vinyl lined
floor.
The original 390 cubic inch V8 rests inside a very clean engine
bay. It already offered plenty of torque to knock you back in your
seat when it first left the factory, and a recent rebuilding has
brought it back to top form. During the process, a 4-barrel Holley
carb and a mild performance cam were added to the mix to up its
power output even further while providing a very appealing lope at
idle. Wearing a properly badged chrome air cleaner and a pair of
chrome valve covers that are complemented nicely by a chrome brace
spanning the shock towers, the engine starts promptly, runs very
strong while sending a great-sounding note through its Flowmaster
exhaust and teams with an also original 3-speed automatic C6
transmission. Power steering and power brakes that feature discs up
front make this classic easy to navigate and bring to a stop on its
stock 15" wheels outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A radials.
