Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Why This Car Is Special
1968 is the first year for the very popular C3 platform that ran
through 1982. Some of the most iconic Corvettes of all time are
C3s. The 427 cars, the 1978 Pace Car and Silver Anniversary and
more.
Mechanical
The numbers matching 327 CID V8, 300 horsepower engine rests under
the hood with an HEI ignition and a great sounding dual exhaust
system. The transmission is a stout Turbo 400 automatic shifted
from the center console. Power steering and power disc brakes help
this Vette steer and stop like a sports car should. Power windows
are a nice feature and they also work well. These Corvettes are
smooth riding and put the power to the ground with an inverse leaf
spring independent rear suspension. The 68 model has vacuum
operated flip up headlights and a vacuum operated windshield wiper
cowl.
Interior
A nice custom touch, the Corvette emblem has been added to the
backs of the seats in this convertible. A black soft top can be put
up in place of the removeable hard top, or drop the top and cruise
with the windows down. A new radio powers a set of speakers in a
box behind the seats for a great sound to your favorite songs.
Plenty of gauges are present above the steering wheel and in the
center console to monitor every aspect of the engine, and indicator
lights let you know if your tail lamps are lit. Storage behind the
seats is easily accessed and is surprisingly roomy.
Exterior
Beautiful Red paint really pops against the chrome accents and
rally wheels. The removeable hardtop is painted to match and is in
great shape. Rally wheels with new radial tires provide a classic
and clean look. Too much red? Put up the soft top to break it up
with some black. The curves on C3 Corvettes are very feminine and
voluptuous. It's no wonder guys can't stop staring at a 68
Corvette! The working flip up headlights add to the sports car
appeal and the dual chrome exhaust tips exiting the rear look and
sound great. Less than half of all Corvette convertible received an
auxiliary hardtop in 1968 and a lot of those have lost their soft
tops through the years. This is a very cool find with both
tops.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a fun, reasonably priced chrome bumper C3
Corvette convertible, take a close look at this beauty. The twin
tops make it desirable and more collectible as time goes by. It
wears the perfect color combination for a Corvette, which also
helps hold that value should you ever decide to sell in the
future.
