Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1977 International
Harvester SSII. This Super Scout is an honest and unmolested
survivor still wearing its original metallic brown paint and
original graphics, which have developed an awesome patina. 1977 was
the first year of production of the SSII, a doorless-and-topless
roadster variant which IH offered to more directly compete with the
open-air Jeep CJ. This truck does have a few battle scars, but all
sheet metal is original, down to the floors - never restored, never
undercoated and not hiding anything. Very solid floor pans, cab
supports and rockers with no rust. Topside is also solid with only
minor surface rust here and there. The only areas with rust-through
are two small spots, low on the quarter panels in front of the rear
wheels, on both sides (see photos).
Nice interior with original, crack-free dash (plus original snap-in
defrost vent covers, which almost never survive on an SSII),
factory AM/FM radio and original steering wheel. Gauges are clear
and working. Seats recently reupholstered in correct material.
Newer bikini top.
Under the hood is the original 304 ci V8 mated to a TorqueFlite 727
automatic transmission (with 3.54 gears). The truck is equipped
with power steering and power disk brakes. It starts, runs and
drives very well. Tidy and correct engine compartment, and even the
engine is in original paint with original decals present on the
valve covers. Over $3,000 in recent service by noted Scout
specialist GRC Fabrication, including carb rebuild, partial engine
reseal, oil service, transmission service, brake master cylinder
and service, and a full tune-up with Pertronix electronic ignition
upgrade.
Stock suspension with new 31x10.50 all terrain tries on original
steel wagon wheels make for a comfortable ride (and the stock ride
height means it's easy to get in and out of). The current owner
took this SSII on a round trip from Georgia to Ohio earlier this
year for the IH Scout nationals, and the truck performed
flawlessly.
Line Setting Ticket (the IH equivalent to a factory build sheet),
period sales literature, owner's manual, and service records
included with the sale. For more information about this 1977
