For Sale: 1970 AMC Rebel in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

Only 200 miles since finished a few months ago. $50,000 restoration in receipts for paint and parts, not including labor. It has undergone a total nut and bolt meticulous restoration with "day 2" period correct performance upgrades. Rare, original Rebel Machine with its original 390 motor and 4-speed. This car is unique and exciting. AMC was trying desperately to boost sales and needed something drastic. This car certainly delivered, it got a lot of attention. 1 year only build, the first 1,000 had the bold red-white-blue color scheme. Another 1,300 were made in various colors.

EXTERIOR: Stunning, if this car doesn't catch your attention there is something wrong. Rust free Montana car, they don't use salt on the roads. Body was stripped to bare metal. $10,000 paint job is slick as Teflon. Has correct $800 decal stripe kit. Original, not reproduction ram air hood scoop with factory tachometer incorporated. Rare original "Machine" wheels. The rears were custom made wider and have Mickey Thompson tires. Front tires are reproduction Wide Ovals with white letters turned in. The restoration is so fresh it still has the nubs on the tire tread. Every piece of exterior chrome and trim shines like new, even the vent window moldings, the grill, door handles, center caps etc. Jambs are painted just as slick as the outside. Sill plates are new and shiny. New weather stripping, all new the fuzzy window seals. The original manufacturer's sticker with VIN number and the original trim tag are still affixed to the door. The body is absolutely straight, there's no damage whatsoever. Doors open and close like a brand new car. Has the vintage style stickers on the quarter windows.

INTERIOR: First thing I noticed when I open the door is all the interior lights work. It looks brand new inside. Reupholstered, seats, new carpet, headliner, door panels etc. Between the bucket seats is the original red-white-blue armrest cushion, also has racing lap belts. No frills dash area restored like new. Has radio delete, tachometer is on the hood and there's a set of vintage Stewart Warner gauges mounted below. Has vintage style cushion grip steering wheel. Everything looks nice- kick panels, mirror, rear deck. It is missing the visors.

MOTOR COMPARTMENT: It is immaculately detailed under the hood. The original 390 motor has been completely rebuilt with some upgrades giving it an extra 100 horsepower. We have complete specs. Upgrades include Edelbrock high rise intake, dual feed Holley carb, hotter cam. Has a beautiful set of vintage style Edelbrock aluminum valve covers. Every component under the hood is immaculately detailed. It has power steering and power brakes. Everything is proper- the fan shroud, wiring, ram air flapper with accuator, correct air cleaner, washer fluid bag. The metal is all painted white gloss. Has an external polished vacuum reservoir for the performance cam. New wires, hoses, belts, starter.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: bottom of trunk lid and jamb are gloss white, new weatherstrip. Wheel wells were widened but retain a stock appearance. Trunk floor has nice coat of spatter paint. There is a fuel cell, carpet mat and a car cover.

UNDERSIDE: It is painted and detailed spotlessly. Gloss white pristine, rust free floors. Welded in frame connectors look like the factory put them there. Upfront the suspension is completely rebuilt, has correct 4 piston disc brakes. Oversize oil pan on the motor, heavy duty scattershield and original close ratio T-10 4-speed. Has old school hot rod exhaust. A set of white long tube headers, dumps and Hooker mufflers. In back the frame has been relocated, wheel wells were widened for wide wheels. Has vintage style adjustable ladder bar set up with coil over shocks. Narrowed Ford 9 inch rear with 4.56 posi. New driveshaft, emergency brake cables are complete, custom fuel delivery system. It's brand new under this car.

A tall pile of receipts and specs will be included. There is also a disc of the restoration. The flashyness is exciting, quality is very satisfying, rarity makes it investable. The ram air 390 with a 4-speed should certainly be thrilling too!
