For Sale at Auction: 1939 Mercury Coupe in Great Bend, Kansas

Vehicle Description

1939 Mercury Coupe

 Odometer Reading: 7800

This Mercury Coupe has undergone a complete nut and bolt rebuild in 2005 and has been meticulously maintained since that time.

A custom built firewall was needed to make room for the 392w….a stroked Ford 351w. It was built with reliability in mind, plenty of torque but runs great on the street. We mated up a custom built Ford AOD with high performance internals. Highway cruising is no problem but it is still fun to drive around town. The rearend is a 9″ Lincoln Versailles with disc brakes. A Chassis Engineering rear leaf spring kit was used to locate the rearend. A Kugel components front end was installed with Shockwave air ride shocks used on the front along with a Kugle disc brake kit. Dumping the airbags give this Mercury a show winning stance. The frame was media stripped, powder coated and then painted with a 2 stage black paint. Everything under this Mercury was built right.

The interior….classic styling. Tan leather covers the Glide bucket seats. A custom console houses the power window switches and ignition. A Lokar shifter was used along with a new billet column and a banjo steering wheel. Under the dash all the wiring was done to a high level. A kugel components pedal assembly was used. Vintage air A/C system will keep you cool on those hot days. The original gauge cluster was rebuilt to finish off the classic dash.

The exterior of the car is bathed in Black ppg base clear. Of course the finish is only as good as what it underneath. The body was media stripped and all the rust (a very small amount, where the rear fenders mount and a few areas on the rear pan) were replaced with new metal. Then the body was enveloped in PPG DP 90 epoxy primer. There are a few small areas that have a minor blemish (rock chip, small hair line crack) but nothing that would keep it from winning at the show. For the age of the paint job it is in excellent condition.

Big Creek Restoration in Ellis Ks built this car.
