Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.  I can assist with financing and transport as needed.

You really don’t see many first generation Monte Carlos.  And that’s a shame.  Cars like this 1970 model, with its LS5 454 cubic inch motor and factory air conditioning, were a splendid combination of big block power and sporty yet elegant lines.  They were some of the nicest of their day.

This beautiful example was built in Los Angeles and spent much of its life in Oklahoma.  It is equipped with much of the SS454 equipment including an LS5 big block, TH400 transmission, 1-1/8” front stabilizer bar, 12-bolt rear end with stabilizer bar, shock protector plates, and SS badging.  The underside is free of any rust issues, while the exterior was stripped to bare metal and given a high quality repaint in its original color of Hunter Green.  The black vinyl top was replaced as were the plastic inner fenders.  Chrome pieces were either replated or replaced.  The new American Racing wheels and Nitto tires look fantastic, and there is also an extra set of chrome Rally wheels.

This Monte is powered by a 454 ci motor with an LS5-correct 3963512 casting.  The engine has fewer than 5,000 miles since a complete rebuild.  This included a new crankshaft, new TRW pistons, reconditioned rods, and balancing.  It also received a Competition Cams 270 camshaft and the cylinder heads were rebuilt.  The factory intake manifold wears an Edelbrock Performer Q-Jet carburetor.  There is also an MSD distributor and coil along with a mini starter.  This motor really is nice; it starts right up with a flick of the key, makes plenty of power, and sounds amazing.  Still it is well mannered on the street with good vacuum at idle.

The engine feeds a TH400 automatic transmission with a B&M torque converter, while the rear 12-bolt axle houses an Auburn limited slip differential with 3.55 gears.  There are many other new parts throughout; control arms, bushings, springs, ball joints, u-joints, brakes, rear air shocks, and more.  The result is a very nice riding car that anyone can drive.

The green vinyl interior is in wonderful condition.  The seats, door panels, and headliner (with shoulder belts) all look terrific.  The woodgrain accents are a really nice touch on the Monte Carlo, adding a bit of class.  Note the horseshoe shifter and center console too.  There is an aftermarket stereo with trunk mounted amplifier.  The horn, wipers, heater, and lights all work.  So does the air conditioning!

There has been a lot of work done to this car, and the result runs and drives as good as it looks (and sounds).  With its distinguished looks, muscle car drivetrain, and comfortable ride it will be a classic you’ll enjoy for years to come.
