Vehicle Description
STK 2477 1966 Oldsmobile 442 Tri-Carb
This is definitely not your Father's Oldsmobile. The 4-4-2 option
to the 1966 Cutlass came in a variety of flavors and this stunning
coupe is one of two very high-end performance offerings - the 'L69
4-4-2 Tri-Carb Performance Package'. The L69 option was available
only in 1966 and only 2,121 were delivered. This California 4-4-2
retains the factory drivetrain and was the benefactor of a full
frame-off restoration that was completed in 2013. (There is a CD
included with the car that documents the restoration process.)
Other documentation includes a build sheet, window sticker and
numerous dated registrations. The beautiful 2-stage Target Red
finish is accented by Olds 5-spoke SSI chrome wheels and redline
radials. The black vinyl interior is fully restored to virtually
factory condition. Our 4-4-2 was originally delivered with all of
the factory "Deluxe Interior Equipment" packages including a
factory tach and 'economy gauge'. An Oldsmobile AM/FM provides
tunes, there are retractable seat belts for everyone and the
'Hurst' shifter could not look more at home. All that said, it
appears this Olds was originally ordered for one purpose -
straight-line acceleration - and it was built to be as light as
possible. There is no A/C, no power steering and no power brakes.
Under the hood, the rebuilt matching numbers 400ci Oldsmobile
powerplant produces 360bhp and a whopping 440lb/ft of torque.
However, progressive linkage to the (3) Rochester carbs allows for
very streetable performance. It is backed by the factory Muncie
4-speed close-ration (M21) manual transmission and factory 10-bolt
posi-traction differential (G80) with 3.55:1 gearing. Suspension is
4-corner coil springs with a 4-link rear axle and front/rear sway
bars. Drum brakes utilize 9.5" drums, manual steering components
are heavy duty and the factory spec exhaust is 2" diameter. This
Olds is a beast. Many folks have said that if Oldsmobile would have
marketed their '60s performance offerings with some energy, sales
of the Pontiac GTO may have been left in the dust. This 4-4-2 L69
adds an exclamation point to that statement. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS
IS".
