Preservation collector's dream car
Last year of the first series of the 911 Turbo in the United
States
First announced at the 1974 Paris Auto Show, the first Porsche 911
Turbo would take the automotive world by storm. Using the
technology and knowledge gained directly from motorsport, Porsche
was able to introduce a car that had excellent performance
characteristics and unparalleled handling. First offered with a
3.0-liter engine and then later a 3.3-liter engine, the 930 series
proved to be a potent street car platform with motorsport-derived
technology.
This boosted 911 was first sold at Norb Kornak Oldsmobile of
Aurora, Illinois on September 20th, 1979 to Arthur Herrmann of
Appleton, Wisconson for $44,940. Well-appointed from the factory,
the Porsche would be lowered by the dealer at Herrmann's request
before taking delivery of the car. All of this is documented in the
amazing collection of original purchase documents that were kept
with the car, including the dealer invoice, factory MSO, and
deposit receipts. Herrmann would keep the 930 until his passing in
2002, in which by then his son took possession of the family
heirloom and kept the Porsche in the family.
This is one of the most original and stock 930s we have ever seen.
Small details highlight how well this car was cared for including
the unscratched chin spoiler, lack of rock chips in the fender
wells, unbent tow hooks, and the residency of the original exhaust
reactors. With its all-original silver exterior paint and interior
looking like new, it is hard to not get excited about such a time
machine.
Canepa acquired the car in 2013 and immediately put the 930 through
a series of tests, leading to over 100 hours of meticulous
attention to all components. All of the mechanical systems were
examined and serviced. Any known issues the car had were addressed
and resolved so that the 930 presented in 100% showroom condition.
The car then sold to a Canepa client on February 10th, 2014 who
kept the pristine 930 in his possession for over 4 years. Now back
at Canepa and ready for its next owner to experience the surge of
power and speed that 930s are known for, this 1979 Porsche 911
Turbo is extremely original, stock and highly prized: a
preservation collector's dream car.
