HISTORY OF THE CADILLAC SERIES 61
1949 proved to be a big year for the Cadillac Motor Car Division of
General Motors. The company would celebrate the assembly of its one
millionth car. Styling was improved with a new lower and wider
grille and a front bumper that wrapped around the front fenders. Up
front, the hood was longer and unique “fishtail” fins formed the
shape of the rear fenders. Cadillac’s Series 61 and 62 models
shared the same 126” wheelbase and gained a square shaped trunk lid
that increased rear storage capacity. With all these improvements
it is no wonder why Cadillac was selected as Motor Trend Magazine’s
“Car of the Year” for 1949.
