Vehicle Description
This 2015 Chevrolet Suburban has been recreated as a modern
two-door Tahoe, offering the best of both worlds-an excellent
modern interior with the handsome looks of the earlier two-door
Tahoe. This one-of-a-kind project evolved over time with a can-do
attitude, external inputs, and true, professional skill. The
results speak for themselves.
Originally envisioned by Jeff Phifer, the builder, this shortened
Suburban project had a mild lift and rode on 33" tires. It was to
be a small team project, built to raise a few eyebrows, not break
the internet. Word of the build escaped, however, and the president
of an automotive design company said he could secure some product
sponsors if the truck was entered in the Battle of the Builders at
SEMA. You've seen the pictures, so you know how it snowballed. Jeff
credits David Jayne and the amazing crew of Madison Automotive with
providing the support necessary to complete the project. He's
grateful for everything they did to make the build happen.
Ten inch lift, twenty-four inch wheels, thirty-seven inch tires -
this thing is a monster! Standing as it does, Jeff says "it
attracts waaaay more attention" than any other car he's worked on,
including bagged trucks with duallies and graphics, and some
$100,000 and $200,000 cars. When parked in front of his shop,
visible from the freeway, but not directly accessible,
cross-country drivers have gone out of their way to get closer,
take pictures, and talk with the builder. It's like a billboard on
wheels!
Armchair quarterbacks criticize the result or the process, but the
truth is Jeff overcame big risks to successfully build this truck.
He might have stopped halfway, been unable to incorporate the
sponsors' extreme products, missed the deadline, or compromised
quality. The opposite is true, and other builders on the cutting
edge of custom vehicle design, who understand the stakes and the
effort, have personally extended their compliments and recognition.
This includes The Muscle from Diesel Brothers, Topo: The Widebody
King, and more. It's been photographed for Truckin' Magazine and
may yet appear among its pages. Those who malign the work as being
done in a personal garage have apparently forgotten Amazon, Apple,
Microsoft, Google, Disney, Hewlett Packard, and Harley
Davidson-just to name a few businesses that started in garages.
In the end, this 2015 Suban is a passion project. It's not about
money or Instagram followers. Jeff is a skilled professional who
loves his work and with this truck, brought one of his first ideas
to life. He's already making plans for his next project.
What's your passion? If it's anything like Jeff's, this is your
chance to get in on a one-of-a-kind creation. If this truck is
calling you, make sure you answer! The caller ID will say (901)
