Vehicle Description
The ragtop Town & Country differed from the normal LeBaron
convertible in wood-look plastic side trim (shared with a T&C
wagon); the Mark Cross added lush hide upholstery adorned with the
leathermaker's logos. Alas, a Mark Cross option was also available
in other body styles, which dilutes the T&C ragtop's collector
appeal. Then again, this wasn't the most common of Chrysler's
reborn '80s ragtops, which should work for it in the future.
A special Town and Country convertible was also made from 1983 to
1986 in limited quantities (1,105 total), which like the wagon
featured simulated wood paneling that made it resemble the original
1940s Town and Country. This model was part of the well-equipped
Mark Cross option package for the latter years.
Despite being mechanically similar to the Aries and Reliant, its
fascias closely resembled those of the larger E-body sedans. This
generation featured Chrysler's Electronic Voice Alert, a
computerized voice which warned drivers about various conditions
with phrases such as "Your door is ajar" or "Your engine oil
pressure is low".
The Town & Country's base 2.6-liter 4 cylinder engine received a
horsepower upgrade to 101 horsepower.
Digital instrument clusters replaced traditional gauges as standard
equipment on Town & Countrys.
All '84 convertibles gained proper side rear quarter windows,
reducing the huge blind spots that plague 1982-83s when the top is
up.
Rear windows were now made of glass rather than plastic.
Unchanged up front, all '84 LeBarons featured a revised rear end
with new wraparound taillights of a taller design featuring
horizontal trim strips.
Steering wheels were redesigned to feature two wider, more padded
spokes.
