Vehicle Description
1974 VW Thing Safari Acapulco Edition. The "factory-produced"
Acapulco Edition was not a standard Thing with a paint scheme.
Acapulco Editions were produced in a three-month period only during
the 1974 model year. Originally designed for the Las Brisas Hotel
in Acapulco, Mexico. The Thing was only distributed in America in
1973 and 1974. This VW Thing received a comprehensive restoration.
The vehicle was stripped down and given a top-to-bottom
professional restoration, and has zero miles since it was
completed. Solid chassis and is factory-correct in every way. It
wears the Acapulco color combination of Aqua Blue and Cream, along
with a new corresponding color-matching interior and Safari top.
They were originally marketed as an instant dune buggy, as all four
doors remove easily and the windshield folds down onto the hood.
This example features all the unique Acapulco options, namely side
steps with the factory threaded mounting holes, surrey top and
hardware on the cowl, wide whitewall tires, striped interior and
exterior upholstery accents, along with matching Coco mats. It is
powered by a 1600cc engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. It
wears all the correct VW decals in every specific factory location.
Many invoices come with it, dating back almost 10 years. It has
32,077 original miles (mileage not indicated on the title).
