account of unquestionable harmony of its tasteful body and its high
performance.

Destined for the U.S. market and imported through New York Harbor,
the Roadster was purchased through Prospect Auto Sales
(Mercedes-Benz & Studebaker) of Buffalo, New York. The car would
reside in New York State for the remainder of its days under
limited ownership and occasional use. An assortment of rarely seen
original books and documents accompany the SL, including the
VIN-matched M-B Certificate of Preparation for Retail Delivery (in
original envelope), Service Booklet with early noted services
performed by selling dealer, Owner's Manual, Parts Catalog, June
23, 1961 Directory of Authorized M-B Dealers in the U.S. and 1963
issue of Mercedes-Benz Around the World Magazine.
In the late 1980's the Mercedes was parked in garage storage where
it would remain until recent years, when the car was revived to
turn-key running and driving order. The original windshield retains
both 1988/89 inspection and registration decals, along with the
included original 1988/89 New York Registration Receipt. Now
offered with a clear Texas title.
Thanks to many years of garage storage, this 190 is a remarkable
example of preservation. In addition to all original glass, this
complete numbers-matching car also retains its original soft top,
trim, chrome, portions of paint, along with 3/61 date coded wheels
- shod in correct-as-delivered 6.40x13" white walled tires. An
original and rare color-matched hardtop with stand offers the
driver three different driving options. The interior is original
and extremely well preserve while the paint is believed to be
largely original and with only minor touch ups throughout. Paint
meter readings are consistent throughout as are the fit and gaps.
The body number "279" is stamped throughout and factory markings
are found on the seat panels.
The luggage compartment displays both original gray mats, tool kit,
jack, lug wrench and 2/61 stamped spare with matching tire. The
engine bay is equally as correct and presentable with fresh rubbers
and consumable items, down to concours correct hose clamps. An
authentic M-B battery provides power. The car's undercarriage is
largely original in appearance, with the exception of fresh
suspension, braking and powertrain components, along with a
beautiful stainless steel exhaust system.
Nicely sorted, thanks to its recent major servicing by well-known
M-B expert Gus Kidonakis of Beverly Hill Motors, this handsome
Roadster makes for an excellent cruiser or preservation display,
featuring classic Mercedes-Benz styling and a great alternative to
the untouchable 300SL. All records of recent parts and services are
included in the car's dossier, as well as a copy of the car's
factory DataCard (birth certificate) provided by Mercedes-Benz
Classic. One of the finest 190 sl we have had the privilege of
offering.
