Vehicle Description
This beautiful restored Packard Custom Eight Club Sedan was
top-of-the-line in 1948 and features the 356ci straight-8 engine,
3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, the long Packard
wheelbase frame, and interior/exterior upgrade options. The base
price in 1948 was $3,700 and this car was optioned out to $4,127,
which included the Electromatic clutch, overdrive, gas filter, oil
filter, radio with vacuum antenna, heater/defroster, backup light,
compass, white sidewall tires, mirrors, engine compartment light,
glove box light and chrome exhaust tip. The car was sold new on
April 20, 1948, by E.B. Patterson Motors dealership in New London,
CT, and has had three owners over the course of its life. It has
43,000 original miles. The engine number is correct and original to
the car. A professional restoration was completed 2016 and included
new interior English wool from Bill Hirsh, headliner, kick panels
and a seat rebuild. The front doors received new woodgrain, the
steering wheel was recast, the engine was removed and checked for
compression and leaks, and nearly all of the chrome/cadmium was
replated. Most of the stainless trim was removed and polished as
well. The fuel pump, water pump, generator, starter, carburetor,
rear pinon seal, wiper motor, clutch bellows, manifold gaskets,
motor mounts, brakes, fuel gauge sending unit, weatherstripping and
fan belt were all rebuilt or replaced. The radiator and
distribution tube were cleaned out, and the Electromatic clutch was
repaired. The radio, vacuum antenna and clock were not restored.
