1981 DeLorean DMC.There shall be no references to Marty McFly nor
any mention of Flux Capacitors here.... OK now that we have that
out of the way....This is a simply stunning 1981 DeLorean we
recently purchased locally out of 20 plus years of ownership.
Having travelled just under 3300 miles from new this is a hard car
to find in its current preserved, obviously loved condition.
Properly maintained using only NOS DeLorean parts this is the right
one. Looks magnificent, drives great and presents itself exactly as
you would expect a 3300-mile original to present itself. All the
standard DeLorean stuff is present and we know if you are looking
at this car that the only real choices you had when you bought one
of these new was manual or automatic.If you are wondering about the
condition of the car just see the photos and think 3300 mile cared
for used car. It's that simple.Purchased in 1998 from DeLorean
Cadillac in Lakewood for what was then a princely sum she's covered
about 500 miles in the last twenty years. The story goes that this
one belonged to a DeLorean relative from new and then on to the
owner previous to us. Makes good sense in that we have a photo of
the man himself, John DeLorean, and the owner prior to us at time
of delivery. How cool is that?With about 9000 of these built and an
estimated 6500 left in the world these cars have really started to
come into their own as truly unique collectibles. While fame came
from the Back to the Future movies the reality is that John
DeLorean was a genius and a maverick and made of the stuff that
helped make this country great. Top big a presence to just be the
father of the muscle car generation (think GTO) he couldn't be
corralled by General Motors and had to strike out on his own.
Success or ultimate failure? We'll leave that question to the
history books but no one can deny the cool of a DMC DeLorean in
stainless glory.Drive it, show it, keep it in a bubble and polish
