The Mercedes-Benz SL series started out as the top of the line
sports luxury tourer that offered both performance and comfort. The
third generation SL was called the R107 chassis and is one of the
most recognizable Mercedes of all time. Produced from 1971 all the
way to 1989, the R107 lived a long and cherished life. The United
States was an extremely popular market for the personal luxury
coupe and almost ? of all SL's were sold here. While US market cars
were held to specific emissions standards, Euro market cars were
free to be the best they could possibly be.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this stunning restored, Euro
market 280SL for your consideration. This 1976 example is powered
by a 2.8L straight six with 182hp, which was even more than the US
market V8 380 model. This car was treated to a complete restoration
and was repainted in its original shade of Astral Silver. As to be
expected of a restored car, the cosmetics of this car are superb.
The exterior is close to perfect and features 14in "Bundt" alloy
wheels, slim European front and rear bumpers, lower fog lights with
custom covers, power antenna, and bright exhaust finisher. The
interior is likewise very nice and features a crack free dashboard,
original instrumentation, Euro dual zone climate control,
aftermarket Kenwood stereo, and wood delete trim. The seats are
finished in black leather and feature vestigial rear seats as
well.
Having been with the current owner for the last five years, this
car went through a comprehensive restoration and has tons of photos
and receipts accompanying the sale. This SL is an excellent driver
and has been finished very well. It even has the original full size
spare and jack in the trunk! You won't be disappointed by this
