Vehicle Description
1982 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The 1982 Collector Edition was the first Corvette with a hatchback
rear window, foreshadowing the C4 Corvette. A special color scheme
was used inside and out, and Collector Edition badges were
featured. The special, exclusive aluminum wheels were designed to
look like the optional bolt-on wheels of the 1967 model. The
Collector Edition had a "0" in the sixth digit of the VIN rather
than the "8" found on
standard Corvettes. This was the first Corvette to sell for more
than $20,000, with a base price of $22,537.59. The Collector
Edition had limited availability and 6,759 were produced out of a
1982 total
production of 25,407.
This Collector Edition automobile presents in good condition. A few
electrical issues that need to be addressed are the operation of
the pop-up front headlights, and drivers side electric window
functionality. Some paint flaws and minimal scratching show
overall, however still running strong this example of only 6,759
produced.
Exterior
Silver beige paint was the color of every 1982 Collector Edition
Corvette produced, and this is no exception. Dark brown curvaceous
pinstriping wraps around the passenger compartment and highlights
the fenders. The all fiberglass body is in good condition. A tinted
glass "T" top which is removable is scratch free and clear. A
hatchback style operable window covers the rear deck. Unique
wheels, patterned after the 1967 model's bolt on alloys, are also
unique to this commemorative edition. Cross-fire injection badging
is seen as well on the exterior.
Interior
Metallic Gold "spacesuit style material" seating has horizontal
multi shade brown hue stripes on the bucket seating. This is
mimicked on the door panels, with the lower door panels wrapped in
smoked gold carpet. This same carpet in excellent condition is seen
throughout the cabin. An early 1980's style rectangular dash has
analog instrumentation and appears that the tachometer is not
functioning. Another cluster of analog gauges is seen in the center
console, which includes the floor shifter between the bucket seats.
A padded 3 spoke stock steering wheel fronts the dash and sports
the crossed flags corvette logo.
Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 engine is fueled by the new Cross-Fire Injection which
includes 2 throttle bodies combined with Chevrolet's computer
control system. A new 700 R4 automatic transmission with higher
first and second gear, as well as a fourth gear overdrive,
increased acceleration and improved fuel economy. The entire engine
compartment presents in fair condition. Underside of the car
reveals that surface rust is present, and lower arm control
bushings need to be replaced. Power disc brakes are on all four
wheels
A functioning example of a rare commemorative edition Corvette,
this car will need some TLC to make it an excellent example.
Matching numbers, and all original, an early 80's design C3
package. This car will benefit from having its legs stretched, and
a good workout, not unlike a sleepy thoroughbred, which has many
races left in it.
