This is your ticket into any Historic event in the world! Please serious calls only. Expensive and worth it.
This Corvette was Rescued together with its 63 B production Sister
Corvette (now Sold)
While it Looks like a 1966, It has been documented by the original
Builder as a 1963 Split window Coupe. It was a Day Two build, that
was converted into a race car in 1964. Because of the lack of
visibility with the split windows, they installed the one piece 64
Rear window and frame which was a common modification during the
era. The original 63 Split windows are complete and in excellent
condition. They are even wrapped in the original corrugated
cardboard from that 1964 build.
Also Included is a unique seat made for the Car by Corvette Legend,
John Greenwood. Reported to be his first manufactured seat.
After the revelation that the car was indeed a 1963, the year was
verified by The hidden Frame VIN, the 63 specific Windshield frame,
& the unique 1963 only Roof line & visible post cuts.
Built & campaigned by Dick Vreeland & John Caruso ( Husband of Lynn
St James , of Indy 500 fame). It was eventually purchased John
Thorne in the late 60's.
Jon Thorne , was the owner of the Penske/ Wintersteen Grand Sport
#2 Corvette roadster at that time. Which was also the first
developed L88 Corvette. That Grand Sport now resides in the Simione
collection and was purchased for over 5 million dollars.
Mr Thorne hired Dick Vreeland to crew & coach him on the new car,
and Dick lived with Jon in Valdosta Georgia. During that time, they
Molded (splashed) the Fender flares from that very Grand Sport for
this car. Mr Vreeland said they would regularly cannibalize parts
off the Grand Sport, as no one new the true value of that car at
that time
( If you google Jon Thorne Grand Sport you will find video of him
taking on all comers in GS #2 @ US91 Drag strip In Albany Ga).
Later during the cars history, a 1966 nose was put on in late 60's
early 70's, From that point on it was then raced as a 1966 Model by
Thorne. There is still a battle scar on the left front corner from
Jon punting a Ferrari @ Sebring in 1972
The car was now known as the 66 FIA Car.
Vic Shin Purchased the car in the early 80's in its last "as raced"
condition by Thorne and promptly brought it to the noted
fabrication shop of Robinson Racing Enterprises for
restoration.
Robinson Racing of Atlanta Completed the car just in time for in
time for the Walter Mitty . The car was reconfigured specifically
for HSR & SVRA Vintage Racing.
This Car won its class in the 2nd Walter Mitty race ever run & has
has many first place medallions since. It also competed in Nassau
Speed Weeks revival, and at many other Vintage east coast tracks
including the Glen & Lime Rock races driven by Vic.
In 1991 it was Invited to participate the pre race parade of
Daytona race car veterans prior to the running of that years
Daytona Rolex 24 hour race.
The Dry sump, Crower Forged components, Roller Small Block Chevy
was built by TRECO in 1988. The engine is, as is the rest of the
car, untouched since its last win in the 1992 Atlanta Historic
