1957 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 in Saratoga Springs, New York
In 1957 Oldsmobile introduced a total new look for the Oldsmobile,
a year ahead of the other GM brands. This is an excellent example
of the new look based on Oldsmobile's 1956 Motorama show car. The
only way to tell that this is a Rocket 88 is the "88" badging
underneath the rear tail lights. Of course the dramatic and wide
chrome grill with "Oldsmobile" lettering embedded in the grill and
the chrome rockets above the headlights say this is pure GM styling
from the 50s.
1957 also saw an upgrade in the power of the Golden Rocket 88
engine. The V8 engine was bored out to 371 c.i. which gave the big
four-door sedan much better performance with 277 h.p. The
transmission on this car is a four speed automatic mounted on the
steering column. The carburetor is a four-barrel quad featured on
most Oldsmobile model in this model year. This vehicle comes with
power steering and a new electric fuel pump.
This beautiful example of the Golden Rocket 88 includes some
special styling cues including the three-piece rear window and a
safety deep-recessed steering wheel.
The interior is roomy with green and white fabric covered bench
seats. Plenty of room for six people in this luxury family
sedan.
The mint green and flawless paint job with those special chrome
accents really makes this car standout at a car show or in any
collection.
