Vehicle Description
Sure, it's a great looking ride - that attribute comes part and
parcel with the model - but this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 also
holds the distinction of being part of a class that righted the
ship as far as the Corvette's reputation as a true performance car,
boasting a classmate who set a new standard for enduring speed over
a 24-hour period. Lightly used over its lifetime, it offers the
promise of miles and miles of driving excitement and will arrive
complete with a clean AutoCheck report in tow to confirm it's
avoided any notable accidents during its lifetime.
This is one very appealing pre-millennial classic, with a sleek,
aerodynamic form that includes a sharply angled front windshield
that leads to its removable hard top before reaching a gracefully
descending rear windshield that conjures up images of its mid-'60s
counterparts, but with a decidedly more modern take. More than 25
years after this 'Vette drew its first admiring glance, its bright
red paint, accented by a single broad black stripe running down its
middle, still puts on a very strong showing, with a nice shine and
impressively even shade from front to back. With their oversized,
road-gripping rear tires, ZR-1s featured a wider rear track than
their more commonly-seen counterparts - you can see the outward
rear taper of the doors as they transition into the rear fenders
that lead to a special rear fascia with distinctive,
semi-rectangular taillights that also set it apart from the
Corvette norm. Just below that you can see the signature quad-tip
exhaust peeking out just the right amount.
There's one very impressive interior waiting inside. Chevy always
had a penchant for equipping its Corvettes with functional yet
stylish bucket seats, and the red leather examples on display here
are particularly impressive, with their unblemished surfaces and
lots of bolstering for support during inspired cornering. They're
bracketed by door panels that are unusually clean and sit flush,
while underneath, an expanse of matching red carpeting also looks
especially good. The black dash area provides some nice contrast
while also looking sharp - its red-illuminated gauges are very easy
to read and a straight dash pad sits over the top. The air
conditioning is running strong and cold and is very much up to the
task of keeping you and your passengers comfortable on even the
hottest of days.
The 350 cubic inch fuel-injected LT5 V8 under the hood is a strong
powerplant that's good for a full 375 horsepower, more than enough
to propel this 'Vette with plenty of enthusiasm and just one of the
highlights that make it a lot of fun to drive. It's only logged
about 45,000 miles - only about 4 years' worth of driving, by most
standards - so it's ready to provide plenty more driving
excitement. It pairs with a 6-speed manual transmission to provide
the "hands on" driving experience a performance-centric ride like
this one demands. The car's road-hugging, low and wide stance
combines with smooth power steering to make it a winner as far as
handling is concerned, while power disc brakes at all four corners
provide rapid, fade resistant stops as it heats up the asphalt on
its 17" Corvette ZR-1 wheels outfitted with Nitto NT555 tires. A
look below will reveal that the years have been very kind to this
Chevy - its undercarriage appears very straight and carries an
unusually light amount of patina for a car more than 25 years
old.
