1958 Continental Mark III Convertible in Auburn, Indiana

Vehicle Description

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Auburn Fall event, 30 August - 2 September 2018.
Estimate:
$40,000 - $50,000

Offered from The Shrine of the Holy GrilleThe largest production American convertible ever producedOne of 3,048 produced; the last year of an independent Continental marqueOlder full restoration in Starmist White with red and white leather interiorPower-operated convertible top with full "parade boot" and power rear window

Nineteen fifty-eight was the last year that Continental was its own separate division of Ford Motor Company. The all-new Mark III was both the longest and widest American automobile ever produced, an honor that, outside of SUVs, it holds to this day. Unfortunately, a flash recession that year cut deeply into the sales of massive luxury cars, and sales were not strong. The bonus is that these delightfully baroque automobiles were rare when new, and are even more so today. The Starmist White Mark III convertible offered here is one of just 3,048 produced. A well-preserved older restoration in the original striking color scheme, it would be a wonderful cruiser this winter in Arizona or Florida, with unparalleled classic presence! To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/AF18.
