Nineteen fifty-eight was the last year that Continental was its own
separate division of Ford Motor Company. The all-new Mark III was
both the longest and widest American automobile ever produced, an
honor that, outside of SUVs, it holds to this day. Unfortunately, a
flash recession that year cut deeply into the sales of massive
luxury cars, and sales were not strong. The bonus is that these
delightfully baroque automobiles were rare when new, and are even
more so today. The Starmist White Mark III convertible offered here
is one of just 3,048 produced. A well-preserved older restoration
in the original striking color scheme, it would be a wonderful
cruiser this winter in Arizona or Florida, with unparalleled
