Vehicle Description
A fellow patron had been collecting and repairing Subaru Brats with
his uncle and claims to have had over three dozen over the last few
decades. They pretty much scoured the country and looked for
affordable and or rust free examples. In his old age, he has
decided to sell his entire collection and we are hoping to pass
these projects on to a new owner. We have two Brats of his, a beige
1983 and a black 1984. He claims to have owned them for a few
years.
As far as we know, both vehicles are very original and don't appear
to be repainted or had bodywork completed. The beige 1983 has a
rebuilt motor and we were told that it was the original engine in
the vehicle. The interior of the beige car appears to be original
as well. The black 1984 is believed to have the original engine as
well.
Both vehicles are being advertised as running and driving project
cars. They are not perfect by any means but are very solid. The
1983 beige vehicle runs and drives very well and was driven over
and hour with no issues. It started up well, ran well on the
freeway, shifter was a bit balky but had no trouble getting into a
gear. It tracked well, braked straight, and could easily maintain
65mph without any overheating or stuttering. The gauges are
working, blower motor works, stereo works but has a blown speaker,
4WD, and 4WD LO appear to work, windows and sunroofs open and close
well, seat belts are good. It is a simple car but we are unable to
confirm if anything else is good or bad. The beige car runs and
drives and a fair amount of things are working well. The interior
is decent but signs of wear are evident. Has a prevalent musty
smell. The black 1984 is much rougher, the engine runs fine but is
a bit hard to start and feels a bit choked. The car shifts well and
the 4WD and 4WD LO appear to work as well. The car runs and is able
to drive down the road just fine. Brakes OK and tracks decently
straight. Tach and Speedo work, unsure about other gauges. Sunroofs
leak a bit. Interior is very worn and the dash is not installed
correctly with loose trim. Both cars have very poor paint, the
bodies are mostly dent free. The beige car is pretty much complete
and features an aftermarket roll bar. The black car is missing a
fair amount of trim and has no functioning lights, the black car
has very rough body with lots of small imperfections.
Both vehicles are pretty much rust free and are said to have
originated out west. Carfax claims the beige car resided in
Washington until 2014. The black car is said to have resided in
California until 2016. The beige 1983 car is very clean overall and
has a clean undercarriage. The rear section of the front drivers
fender has some rust and needs to be patched or replaced. The black
1984 is very clean inside and out as well but has some light
surface rust on the undercarriage and has light body rust where the
paint has failed.
We have no service records, only the assurance of the previous
owner that he had taken good care of them. According to him, the
beige 1983 car features a rebuilt engine with less than 700 miles
on it, updated suspension, new brakes and a bunch of minor repairs.
He claims to have done little to the black 1984 other than get it
running.
