1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone
No expense was spared during the comprehensive restoration of this Mercury Comet Cyclone, one of only 12,345 built during the 1965 model year. Driven just 1,090 miles since its completion, the black-on-black Cyclone is a great example of Mercury's compact performance offering of the mid-1960s with updates that include an Auto Lite carburetor, Unsteer bolt-on power steering, aftermarket valve covers, aluminum radiator, dual exhausts with dumps, Flow master mufflers and a 1965-dated Hurst shifter for the Top loader 4-speed transmission. Available only for the two-door Comet hardtop, the Cyclone package added chrome moldings, checkered-flag Cyclone emblems, unique grille and distinctive chrome-plated wheel covers with bright lug nuts. The interior included bucket seats, floor console, a 3-spoke Rally steering wheel and a 6,000 RPM tachometer mounted on the instrument panel. Under the hood, the 289 was equipped with chrome air-cleaner lid, dip stick, and oil filler and radiator caps, while the handling was updated for V-8 performance with larger drum brakes, 5-lug wheels and heavy-duty suspension with higher-rate springs, stiffer shocks and a quicker steering ratio. With its December 23 build date; this 1965 Comet Cyclone was one of the last built during the 1964 calendar year. Restored on a laser-straight body, the Cyclone rolls on redline tires and comes with the factory glovebox and trunk key.
