One of just 1,787 Sun Valleys producedUnique and futuristic
Plexiglass half-roofConcours-quality restoration recently
completed
The Mercury Montclair Sun Valley was produced for just two years,
1955 and 1956. During that time, a reported 1,787 examples were
produced. When compared to the 10,668 Montclair convertibles
produced during the same period, it is clear that the Sun Valley
was significantly rarer and, consequently, remains very much so
today. It is believed that only a handful of such examples remain
extant.
The car offered here is easily one of the finest surviving examples
of this limited-production Mercury. It recently underwent a
comprehensive restoration to a very high standard and is elegantly
finished in a medium shade of yellow with an exceptional black and
cream two-tone interior with a dash in yellow to match the body.
The Sun Valley's defining characteristic, the large tinted
Plexiglass roof, bathes the entire front seat in natural light, and
makes for a very pleasant driving experience without the inherent
complications of a convertible top mechanism. A powerful 292-cu.
in. V-8 engine, the large amount of chrome and, of course, that
characteristic "glass" top, combine to make this a mid-century
automobile lover's dream.
As a fine example of an uncommon automobile, this Sun Valley is an
ideal choice for participation in AACA events or local shows, or
for simply enjoying on the road. Not commonly seen at car shows
today, few cars provide the presence and effortless cruising of a
mid-'50s Mercury. In period, owning a luxury car such as a Mercury
was a sure sign of success and came with a rightly deserved pride
of ownership. This is an ideal opportunity to experience that same
pride for yourself. To view this car and others currently consigned
